Hope x 64

Today is March Madness - the start of the men's college basketball tournament to determine the national champion for Division 1. Since this time last year, every coach, every player, every team, every fan, every president, and every athletic director at the schools that play men's basketball have been focusing on this day. They have hoped to be good enough - or in some cases lucky enough - to get invited to take one of the 64 spots for the tournament starting today.

This isn't a perfect system - it's single elimination and some teams with very good records didn't get invited (that's why I said "lucky enough").

Still, all 64 have hope. By tomorrow morning, 16 of those teams will be focusing again on next year. Another 16 games tomorrow.

That's one of the great things about competition and sports - hope. Until the contest is played, there's always a chance that you can prevail.

Good luck to all the teams and the fans.

A the Madness begins.  My little college, Stephen F. Austin made it with the big teams this year.  Great inspiration story.  Only 3 teams from our state made it and all 3 are low in the rankings.  I love pulling for the under dogs.  We all know the TV will be a magnet over the course of the next weeks.  Have fun!

Bruce and Mary,

Wonder how many upsets (lower seed beating a higher seed) in today's game? Good luck. :)

Connie,

Don't you just love underdogs? If they can focus on playing well enough, they can advance. :)

Tony,

Until the buzzer sounds at the end of each game, anything is possible. We'll have to wait to see who's standing. :)
