Finding your way in the Rain

With all of the changes that have happened in the past few days at Active Rain, a couple of things I have noticed that I wanted to pass along - for anyone who hadn't noticed them. One is incidental, the other could matter.

The incidental one is that each time you post a comment to a blog - yours or another one - you get a red message at the top tof the post that says your comments was recorded successfully. Don't we know that because we can see it on the post? Red messages usually mean that something is wrong, not that something we already know has happened has in fact happened.

The other is a heads up. The default view ("visibility") for a new posts is "members only" when it used to be "public." Now you have to select public unless you really do intend it just for members. Just an extra step.

Yeah, the default to Members Only tripped me up a bit there, too.  I still need to stop and t.h.i.n.k. when I get to that spot.  Ditto for needing to check "Individual Blog" before posting.  I don't always remember to look at that either.

Yep...the Members Only default got me too! Oh well...change is good..change is good..change is good *I keep saying it*

Thanks, Steve.

It's easy to miss these little things.

I noticed those changes as well as the RainMaker logo on your picture and not mine. I have not looked to see what it takes to get this badge.

Posted by David Phelps (The Roofing Company, Inc.) over 3 years ago

I did notice the changes.  The red always makes me look twice even though I know it's going to be at the top of the page and it should be...red just makes you think something went wrong.  The Members Only got me as well but that should just show me to be more thorough when posting a blog entry.  Thanks for the heads up!

Steve, I noticed the red message at the top of each post after a successful comment. I didn't know about the "Members Only" link being the default. Thanks for the heads up.

Linda,

You're welcome. There are lots of little nuances now to be watchful for. :)

David,

I really don't know about the badges, and on some profiles the stamp covers some of the nav bar. :)

Jenn,

Thanks for echoing what I noticed. The red message is still a puzzle to me. :)

Michael,

Glad to help out. Each line and box at the bottom needs to be read and acted on. :)

Steve.. I knowed the "RED" message at the top that my comment was suggessful.  Just like you I thought there was a problem.  Do you want to hear something funny though with this?  The red message said it was saved, but when I looked for the comment, it wasn't there.  So, you might want to check for your response anyway.

Valerie,

I didn't have those issues - sorry you did. It seems that several of us had various issues and not everyone had the same. I'm doing OK now though. :)

Steve - I've noticed these changes.  It's kind of tricky trying to remember to change the "Members Only" to "Public"...  :)

Debi,

I think they changed it back to "public" but now I see the comments page has changed its look again. Wow, :)

Steve,

I am not messing with you....that comment above, when I hit enter, posted a bunch of times. I did not keep hitting the submit button. Anyway, I like it better without the mug shot to the left and it was gone yesterday, back today.

Steven,

Nice way of racking up the commenting points (just kidding). First, the pic was only available when you commented on your own post - and that was a nice way of seeing which ones were yours. Then they added more, then more, then more - but still not all. Now our own post comments have a bluish tint. Stay tuned. :)

Ilike the bluish tint on your own comments in to your own blog.  I also like the mug shots,  This way, newbies like me get to connect faces with the comments and you become a personality to me.  Now why don't I rate a mug shot?  And what makes one a Rainmaker?

"Leah",

Thanks for asking these questions, but I don't have the answers. If I did, I would share them with you, but I really don't know. :)

Steve,
I've noticed that I've been getting red statements after I comment on others' blogs. I hope they mean that my comments were submitted successfully. Also, I am going to be more vigilant about choosing 'members only' option. Thanks for the headsup.

Steve...it seems like I am getting this down a little bit.  Ive been blogging since January and am really enjoying but feel like I am a deer in the headlights sometimes!  It takes time to learn all this but I think Im getting the hang of it.  Thanks for the post

Didn't know about choosing "members only" option.....It helps when the AR members sends post on these changes to help keep us on track.
