Great customer service - for a change

Customer service - and usually the lack of it - is a topic that is frequently discussed on this forum.

A few nights ago, we were at a restaurant where the epitome of a great customer service attitude was uttered by the manager.

Apparently they were short staffed. This seems to be a rather common issue in the restaurant and retail arenas - so the manager was helping out at the salad bar. Another customer remarked about how happy he seemed and his great attitude, and his response was classic.

He said, "I'm the manager and I love it here. I'll do whatever needs to be done."

Wow, if more managers felt that way, then more employees might feel that way, and then there would be more satisfied customers. Then, we'd be able to return to stores that we no longer patronize because of their deplorable attitude and execution.

Regardless of what we do, we need to do it enthusiastically and set a great example to those around us - associates and the public.

It's amazing how much our attitudes affect those around us.  I'm sure if you asked the employees what they thought of that manager you would hear some good things.  Thanks for the post.

Jared,

Our attitude definitely rubs off on those around us. That's why is really nice to see managers who "get it." :)

Steve...

And that kind of enthusiasm filters down through the ranks. Very good attitude there, I must say!

Steve, enthusiasm will filter through our ranks, as does negativity, a great attitude is so important for ourselves and those that we work with!

Doom and gloom is contagious, but so is a smile, happiness, and pride. Unfortunately, doom and gloom is easier to catch.

Steve:  Enthusiasm and the food industry seem to be a rare combination.  But like you, when I get to enjoy someone with a great attitude and great service, I enjoy the restaurant.

Steve.. PMA, Postitive Mental Attitude.  It is amazing where it will get you.  This was my new years resolution.. and I'll have to do a blog about this, and what happened today to me.  I'll probably do it tomorrow.

Great post.  I like reading and hearing about good/positive things happening.

Hi Steve

Excellent customer service stands out as a result of poor service. It great to receive excellent customer service.

Good luck and success.

Steve - Great points made.  Customer service is key in maintaining a happy clientele.  Having the customer in mind in the decisions we make and how we provide good service to them is important in establishing a positive brand.

Chris Ann,

I don't know why that is since restaurants only have a limited amount of time to impress you with the quality of their food and service for you to want to return. :)
