The beginning of the end

One of the bitterweet parts about this time of year is that there are so many good college football matchups but that when the games are over the season is too for those teams.

The college football bowl season kicks off today and continues through the national championship game.

We wait all year for college football, then it goes by all too quickly in September, October, and November.

The bowl season is like a curtain call or encore for the season. It, too, will be over quickly. Then the wait til the fall (not counting spring drills).

Such is the life of a fan.

I've been starving for college football the last two weeks. I'm just glad bowl season is underway.

Darrell,

Well, here it is. Get it while you can. Break out the refreshments and the pom-poms. :)

Gail,

You don't like football? That's all right. Plus, it's OK to watch a game or two - I don't think that will hook you. :)

Steve:  I remember vividly the melancholy moods when the end of football season was near.  That was back in the days, during my time in Sports Radio, when I actually watched it.  Once I left that job, I was done with football.  Must've had something to do with the misery of always watching the Redskins flounder.

Chris Ann,

The teams I want to win rarely do, but I enjoy watching the good plays and agonizing over the missed opportunities - a lot like sales. :)

Steve, it does go by quickly.  I am glad that the bowl season is here however!

Steve - Doesn't football have the shortest season compared to other sports?  There's still hockey (if you like hockey.)...and then baseball...   :)

Tony & Darcy,

It sure does zoom on by. I like the bowls, too. Rapid fire football. :)

Debi,

I think so. Football plays 12 weeks - 16 in the NFL (3 or 4 months). MLB has 6 months, NBA has 7 I think, and hockey is about the same. :)

Hi Steve

The college football season is quickly coming to and end;  but now let the bowl season begin.

Success and good luck

Steve: College Football is wild and sometimes very unpredictable, which makes it a lot of fun.

My sons go to Rutgers and Hofstra.

Steve...

True, but there are some pretty good games on this year's schedule!

Steve.. I love watching a good game of football, I cheer and get upset like most fans.  But I am not one that has to watch it... I just like to watch it when I have the time.

Lou,

The bowl season is like the bonus round for college football only sometimes the matchups are not what you'd like to see. :)

Richard S.,

Rutgers had such a good team last year and started off OK this year. Would like to have seen them do better. :)

Valerie,

I don't "have" to watch it but I like to tune in and know that it's there. :)

Right now BYU and Arizona are playing in the Pioneer Las Vegas bowl just a couple of minutes from my house. College games have such a great atmosphere, and it's amazing how so many fans travel to support their teams.

John,

It really is amazing the following that college football gets. :)

Hi Steve - As an avid sport fan I move from season-to-season hoping for the best for my teams.  College football is one of those I follow closely and find the bowl season to be interesting to say the least.  I guess one issue with the bowl season is that so many teams have played their last regular season game several week prior to their bowl appearance; this is particularly true with the national championship game.

Jon,

You are right. The Big Ten typically ends the last weekend in November. That leaves a month or more til the bowl games - almost a new, one-game season. :)
