I know I'm not the only one experiencing this, but it sure does complicate blogging.
This is the first time I've been able to log onto AR today. I have gotten more "Proxy Errors" that I can count and 2 "The system is down for maintenance" screens - this is new, I've not seen it before.
For most of this week, the old proxy error gnome has been holding our blogging platform hostage. It has taken immeasurably more minutes and screen refreshing to do what should be a simply task of posting a blog or reading and commenting on other blogs that we follow.
It's been a hit or miss proposition - never sure that you would be able to get onto the system at all.
I see that we are now over 153,000 members. That's fabulous and there are bound to be times when too many people try to access the system at the same time.
My suggestion for a New Year's resolution for the AR staff is more - more members of course, but more capacity, more speed, more neat tweaks to the system, and more prosperity for everyone.

Steve... This is the first time today I am getting on AR. So far no problems, maybe they have been corrected.
Steve - I've been experiencing the same thing...many "proxy error"s. I haven't seen the "system is down for maintenance " screen. I think that's a great resolution for Active Rain. :)
I'm new at this and thought it was my computer. I'm just glad to hear it's not just me. (or my computer!)
I agree. The errors were so bad this morning, I turned off my computer and just logged back four hours later. Happy Holidays
Hi Steve:
I'm sure AR has been working on it. Hopefully they'll hear our cries for help...
I often think that if they took the in-active members out we would run a lot faster... not sure this makes sense... now over 150K members....
Merry Christmas!
your friend in Charlottesville
I agree! Good points!
Steve, I was surprised today, when I finally got though the proxy errors, to find out I had 170 subscribers, up from 54 yesterday. When I looked to see who they are, I had 3 pages of the same people...what is up with that? It does make it harder to work on a blog, but the auto save helps from losing what you were working on.
Valerie,
It's still slow, and the statistics are all messed up. :)
Steve
Debi,
Thanks. Let's hope they agree and can do something. It's taking a lot more time to participate in AR now. :)
Steve
Debi,
Just that comment took over 30 seconds to post after I hit "submit." I'll bet it was a hair away from the dreaded proxy error timeout. :)
Steve
Cindy,
It's not just you. It's all of us, and the issue has been ongoing since early in the summer. There are times when you can surf and post and everything works fine - as it's supposed to, or even better. Then it breaks like now and we can't handle it. :)
Steve
Mark,
Likewise. Even worse Wednesday night. I was totally offline for so long that I went to bed early. :)
Steve
Mark,
That last comment timed out (three times) and went to proxy error but still posted - on firefox they will still post but you have to refresh anyway. :)
Steve
Toula,
I know they're aware of it - that doesn't make it any easier to accept. That's why I proposed the resolution. :)
Steve
Charles,
I rarely see more than 3.000 members online at any given time, and sometimes it's even below 1,000. I don't think that's the issue. Can you imagine if 20 or 30,000 tried to be online at the same time?? :)
Steve
Li,
Thank you. Glad you got through to leave your comments. :)
Steve
Fred,
I have two sets of subscribers - the right number and below that a considerably higher number. Plus, instead of being #1 for my city, I'm #0. :)
Steve
Steve,
AMEN! I tried to blog this morning and just gave up and left. When I came back it was better, but not great. And the auto save wasn't working either. The blog I had done only saved the first picture I had put in, not the whole thing. Glad I had the foresight to cut and paste it into word so that I could put it back.
Good luck to the powers that be, I am sure they are working hard at this and getting tons of "advice", thoughts, comments, : :) :)
Off to do something else besides The Rain and let things fix themselves.
Have a great day and thanks for sharing so we know we are not alone!!
...geri
I hate Proxy Error. I know hate is bad, but I sincerely hate it. Proxy Error should go away, forever!
Steve.. I stand to be corrected. This system has been giving me nothing but problems. LOTS OF ERROR PROXYS. I couldn't even get into *my home* at one point.
Hopefully NOW it is working fine.
Geri,
I am now back after a few hour break. I couldn't even respond to comments. :)
Steve
Cherimie,
Proxy error is frustrating beyond belief. It is so pointless. :)
Steve
Valerie,
I have been offline and away from Active Rain today more than I've been on. We'll see how it goes now. :)
Steve
Numbers are going to drop like a stone unless they figure it out. Past week has been the worst that I have seen - lag, error messages, inability to log in, double and triple comment posts. etc. Love the resource - hate the aggravation. Need to satisfy the addiction.
Ryan,
I agree. I hesitate trying to invite anyone else until this is resolved. Imagine you were new and this was your only experience. :)
