What goes up must come down

Can you believe just 4 months ago oil was more than $100 a barrel than it is right now? The high was somewhere in the $147 a barrel range, and yesterday's close was below $41. There is speculation that it could go much lower.

Whatever the cause, enjoy it.

Gas prices which were well north of $4.00 a gallon and now it's in the mid $1s in many places. We are below $2.00 but not by much. Even diesel prices have moderated substantially.

All this means that the average worker - and us - can commute to work and run necessary errands without gasoline being the primary budget consideration. It means that fuel surcharges on food and deliveries should go away. It means that inflationary tendancies caused by fuel prices should reverse.

A nice Christmas present for all of us.

Steve, I'm still waiting for all the other prices that went up in conjunction with their increased transportation expenses to come down. I love the current gas prices and I've read that they're on their way down even further.

Richard I.,

Me, too. Butter, sodas, crackers, cereal, produce - when do we get a break? The only place I've really noticed it is on my electric bill's fuel surcharge. :)

BTW, I paid less than $2.00 per gallon yesterday. Pretty cool!

Debi,

Let them reduce production - when demand doesn't increase, they may give up on it. :)

Bo,

Did you include government spending and bailouts in that "everything" of yours? :)

Steve:  Prices are well below $1.50 here.  I wouldn't be surprisedif it went below $1.00/gallon soon.

Chris Ann,

That's incredible. The lowest I've seen here is $1.85 and some are still over $2.00. :)

I'm seeing prices as low as $1.42 a gallon in South Jersey.  Definitely a welcome holiday gift/

Karl,

That is a great price. I don't know if we'll ever get to see those numbers here. :)

Lou,

They really are, but when do we get to see some of those incredible prices? We are one of the highest counties in the country. :)

Steve - I hope prices do get down to $1.40 in your area.  By that time I'll be close to $1.00.

Steve - Oh what a relief it has been, these reduced gas prices! Our "commuter"/road trip vehicle is a Toyota Prius, and I filled up for $15 last time. That is indeed a gift with this slow market!

Karl,

Thanks. It would be nice but don't that we'll ever see them. Good luck on breaking a dollar where you are. :)

That is a number I could live with - haven't seen anything like that in many a year. :)

Hmmm, just two years ago. . What's happened?  We just jumped over $3.00 per gallon, here in Central Illinois, a couple days ago.   And, of course, the radio-press is saying that we can expect $4.00 again; maybe even $5.00 in the foreseeable future.   ===  Hmmm, Hope and Change? ? ?

Will,

Wait till it passes $5. Where's that offshore drilling? Too bad. BTW, Happy 2011! :)
