Clueless, lost, or self-absorbed?

I've seen this so many times - I'm sure you have, too. The driver that acts as if they are the only one on the road - that the entire highway was built just for them and that no one else would ever dare use it.

You're driving along when the car in front of you suddenly comes to a complete stop with no obvious reason. You use all the braking power and quick reflexes that you have to avoid ending up in their backseat, and then they continue on their way.

You're driving along and sudden;y someone from 2 lanes over decides that they want to drive in front of you in your lane - no signal, no notice other than you see this aggresive (possibly clueless) driving.

You're driving along and someone - oblivious to your presence - makes a right turn right in front of you after moving all the way across the expressway in the amount of time it took you to drop your jaw and take evasive action.

Are these people lost? Oblivious? Clueless? Poor-mannered? Self-absorbed? Maybe a little of each?

Driving sure can be an adventure. Be very careful.

Why stop with drivers - what about people on their cell phones who are clueless, lost and self-absorbed?  Wait - those may be the same people.

Steve~ I can't believe some of the things I see drivers doing while driving, it really is scary! I have even seen women putting on mascara while driving and looking right in their rear view mirror!

Steve...

I used to spend a lot more time in traffic than I do now, and I hated it! There are some crazy drivers out there.

Steve, the worst one for me was a woman reading a novel that was propped against the steering wheel; she was weaving from side to side and obviously engrossed in the book. (I called 911, but I doubt if they bothered)

Texting is the latest problem. I've seen it several times.

For years, I've been proposing a "Donna Highway."  I am going to only allow other Donna's to use it unless I'm actually allowed to drive it all by myself. I get so sick of other "bad" drivers that I just want an escape from them.

My favorite is when someone cuts me off by driving the wrong way in a parking lot and then flips me off when I have to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting them!! Grrrr!! ~A:)

I think cell phones are the worst distraction.  Every day it seems I am cut up by someone who does not even see me because they are talking on the phone.

Steve - traffic and the excesses of Los Angeles drivers is the one thing I miss the least about our move from California to Southern Oregon. Those drivers lead to the totaling of one vehicle I had and injuries as a result of another. And the uninsured driver that caused the injury accident placed a claim on my insurance! What a world we live in...

Posted by Karen Pierce Cooper| Housing Counselor |Oregon over 3 years ago

Steve, I am paying for the road so I will use it as I wish!

Signed,

Princess- driver that was talking on the phone. Almost missed her exit but then decided it wasn't the right one. Breaked in front of you then regrouped, dialed another number and went on my marry way after flipping off someone who did the same thing to me.  The true talent, I was applying mascara the whole time.  I never saw you there.

This morning on the way to work, I noticed at least three drivers who apparently are celebrating "Blinker Free Friday"!!!

I hadn't heard about the holiday Craig speaks of.  I will be celebrating later this morning!  Who am I kidding- It is a way of life.

I actually saw some one doing a sodoku puzzle as they were driving the other day, and they say talking on the phone is a bad thing???

I think the problem is more that people dont think!

Posted by Robert Rauf (REMN - Real Estate Mortgage Network (NJ)) over 3 years ago

You know, I think they are a bit of it all!

I have thought all the time that people should be re-evaluated every time they renew their license. I know that sounds like it would be a huge hassle, on the drivers side AND the DOL, but people who don't drive safely or effectively have no business being on the road in the first place. I say re-testing for all!! ;)

Ha ha ...my sentiments exactly!  But I guess if you really stop and think about some of the scary near misses that you yourself may have caused you realize that it is usually due to letting your mind wander off onto other matters instead of your driving.

I actually got run into a couple of years ago that way. The other driver tried to put their car in a space that they couldn't access from the wrong direction. My parked car was in their way. :)

I do hope you are well after that. The uninsured motorist is a meance. I had one hit my car a few years ago - didn't even get a ticket. I also had a dear friend almost killed by one many years ago. :)

I especially like the one where they stop in front of you for no apparent reason and with no warning...........looking for lipstick? ...what the heck? lol

Posted by Liz Moras ~ Chilliwack Realtor, Garrison Crossing,Chilliwack, Abbotsford (Harrison Hot Springs, Cultus Lake) over 3 years ago

Steve, please excuse me for answering Liz's question- How will I get out of a ticket?  You have to look your best at all times.  A wink and tears help but you have to have the full effect with the lips.  Quivering without lipstick is useless.

Yes, that is one of my favorites - or they pull out a map as if it had to be done right there in the middle of traffic. :)

Steve - It seems that no matter how safely you drive, you can have an accident - because of another person's unsafe driving habits.  You constantly have to be on your toes, don't you?   :)

Steve - injuries all healed, but boy was I MAD. My insurance carrier got quite the earful from me when they wanted to pay off the uninsured motorist because it would be less costly than paying legal fees to fight her.

Melody - you are a kick! :->

Posted by Karen Pierce Cooper| Housing Counselor |Oregon over 3 years ago

Steve - and I bet if you asked them, they think they are good drivers.  This morning I watched an elderly person in a minivan pull out in front of a loaded dump truck- on a 4 lane highway that has a speed limit of 50 MPH.  Didn't even see it coming!  Luckily the truck was quick to react - and blare his horn!  If they'd have wrecked I would have been there to verify the truck driver did nothing wrong!

Here's your sign.....

Steve

Steve,

Me too.  The damage to the minivan would have been extensive, they would have thought a train hit them!  With the aging population I see the pull out deal quite a bit.  I don't think the eyes are working very well!
