So tonight's the big night

So tonight's the big night. Unless you live in Arizona or another area that does not observe daylight savings time, tonight's when we recapture that hour that was taken from us back in April.

You realize that this is one of those government programs where they give us something that is supposed to make us happy (in this case an extra hour of daylight during the summer months for those outdoor activities) and then they take it away, again to make us happy (an extra hour of sleep) - but all the while it was our hour to begin with. Great slight of hand. Take what is ours, repackage it, give it back to us, take it away, repackage it, give it back to us, and we're happy. The ultimate government program. And this one didn't cost them anything. What happened?

So the big question? What are you going to do with those extra 3600 seconds, those 60 minutes, that one hour?

Got some big plans do you?

Whatever you do, don't just sleep it away. :)

It was unusual to have the kids running around before dark trick or treating last night. I guess now Ill be a sleep at 8 pm and up at 5 AM.

Laura,

Is that 5:00 today's time or tomorrow's? It'll take a few days to get used to this. :)

Steve, I heard an interestuing stat yesterday about heart attacks and the time change. Apparently there are more reported emergecy room visits because of heart failure the day after we set clocks forward an hour in MArchfor daylight savings and less of them in October when we move them back. Although anecdotal, it would seem that that extra hour of sleep is good for you.

THanks

We will have darkness for dinner again, a reason to have candlelight dinner!! How romantic!

Caren,

Have a great evening. Of course, if you wait long enough to eat it's usually dark anyway. :)

Steven,

Is that any way to treat this gift of an extra hour? :)

Steve: We have learned that the government only gives specific people something for nothing. It is not possible to give everyone something that was not theirs to begin with, for nothing.

Richard S.,

But where did the government get it in the first place, but they started with nothing? :)

Brad and Angela,

If the home are empty, that might be true. Otherwise shouldn't make any difference. In fact I like to look at homes at night as well as the daytime. :)

Well now, as Realtors,  we don't have to show houses later in the day. So we can usually get home a little earlier...That extra hour can be well spent with family, friends, loved ones....

Craig,

Showing homes at night can work out well - gives a different impression of the home. People are going to live in it at night so why not show it at night? Family time is very important also. :)

Ah ha!  We thought it was last weekend.  It's harder to keep track when you live in Arizona - except we do notice when it messes up our TV programming and the wrong show gets recorded.  Thanks for the notice.

Why would you turn your clocks back?  I've never understood that and am glad we don't engage in that foolishness here in Hawaii.

Stephanie,

When are you guys going to get with the program and do the daylight bit? :)

Richard,

You have to turn the clocks back because you set them ahead and if you don't turn them back you can't set them ahead again next spring. :)

Steve - Since I haven't gotten much sleep lately, I'll probably be one of those that "sleep it away"...  :)

Nicole,

Sleep seems to be gaining in popularity as a way to use the extra hour. Enjoy. :)

Stephanie,

For now, so you don't "feel left out" turn your clock ahead an hour for a few minutes and then turn it back. :)

Talk about being screwed up - went to Sin City and visited Arizona and then got hit with daylight savings.  Talk about being totally screwed up - Pacific time, Arizona time, Central Standard time... Good to be home and glad I didn't have any appointments because my PDA seemed to have a mind of its own.
