Falling gas prices provide new entertainment

As gas prices went up - sometimes several times in the same day and always by several cents at a time - we always tried to keep our tanks full as a hedge against the increasing prices. Kind of a value averaging approach. This was better than getting hit with a large bill for a complete fill-up.

Now, the opposite is true. We are witnessing drops in prices of a few cents to as much as 10, 12, and 20 cents a day. Where will it stop? Who cares, you say. Just keep it coming.

Our strategy has changed now from filling up to only putting in a few gallons at a time. The price will be even less tomorrow, and less than that the next day.

How low will it go? Let's enjoy the fall (falling prices as well as fall weather) as long as we can.

Along the way it's a great conversation starter, and it's a great alternative to talking about Wall Street.

Also, it lets us compete with each other as to who has the best price.

Yeah Steve it has really plunged lately, the wholesale price of gas broke $2.00 today it closed around $1.80 or so, with taxes and profit in FL at approx $1.00 we should see retail gas prices below that $3 level soon.

Jamie,

That's a far cry from $4.29 isn't it. I see diesel is still over $4.00. Thanks. :)

Hi Steve- You make me laugh out loud.  I've been micro-watching the market the past few days and watching gas prices at our local Super WalMart.  With the .03 discount we are now below $3.00 a gallon - WOOPEE (being facetious).  Did you see the market had a 1018 point swing today.  Hell of a roller-coaster.  Everything aside - have a great weekend.

Gas prices are never boring.  They were down to $2.99 when I filled up this week.

Gail,

Thanks. It is amusing the ways the prices are coming down - finally - after the way they just took off going up. :)

Brad and Angela,

The more they keep dropping, the more people can use that gas money on something else. :)

Barbara,

We've been told to expect below $3 gas, but we still have a ways to go. The lowest I saw today was $3.29 but most was still around $3.40. :)

Steve...

I am laughing as I write this, because we have seen prices drop nearly a dollar a gallon in the LAST WEEK! And now we have all grades of gas! You bet I'll wait it out and save those pennies!

Gas prices were down to $2.97 in my area this week.  I never thought I would be happy to see prices near $3.00 (after all, I can still remember 25.9 cents.. lol  ok  I'm old).  As everyone else, I want to see them fall even more!

Richard,

That is remarkable and about time. Georgia has always had great gas prices until recently. Glad you have all the grades back. :)

Craig,

That's getting much closer to the $3 mark - don't overbuy - wait them out. :)

Jon,

I bet you remember gas in the teens as well - and gas wars. Three dollar gas is still high but it's getting more reasonable. :)

$3.20 in Tucson...My biggest issue is that the price of oil is just over 1/2 of what it was at the peak and the price of gas has only dropped roughly 18%. Where did the rest of that savings go?

Kitty,

Fantastic news. Thanks for letting me know. Go get 'em, I'm expecting great things from you. :)

Patrick,

Something to do with the percentage of increase on oil over gas or something. Let's just be thankful the prices are coming down. :)
