It won't be long now

As summer's long hot days change into shorter autumn days, it means that our citrus will be ripening and ready to eat before a whole lot longer. The fruit is just starting to turn color.

It's still a few weeks off, but this variety of orange - the picture on the left (I don't the actual name of it) is usually the first of our oranges to be ready to eat. The picture on the right is a meyer lemon - the size of small softball.

Fall really is a sweet season for us.

Steve - Does this grow on your property?  Did you say that you have 3 acres?  That's really nice...  :)

Steve ~  I love the fall.  It is a wonderful time of year.  The apples are going to be soooo good!  Enjoy the beauty of autumn.

Debi,

Yes, I took these pictures this afternoon. We have 2½ acres, and I'll share some other fruit pictures later.

Joan,

I love apples - but I have to get them in stores. However, we do have fresh oranges and other fruit that I just go outside and pick.

Wow - that is a huge lemon!    Enjoy the fruits of the season Steve :)

Kara,

It is a big lemon - almost as large as a ponderosa lemon. Thanks, and enjoy your fall and changing leaves. :)

Liz,

Thanks. We certainly enjoy this area - of course your scenery is simply gorgeous, but the fruit, plants, and trees here are a definte plus.

Steve~ Those oranges and lemons will be great.  We have planted about 1500 blueberry bushes this year on our farm in Hawesville, Kentucky. (it is about 25 minutes from where I live in Owensboro,KY) Hopefully we will have lots of blueberries in the next couple of years...  maybe we could trade!

Vickie,

We sure can't grow berries here (at least I don't thinks so). Sounds like you should have a good yield. A trade - hmmm. :)

Bo,

Fall really is different. Some look forward to leaves changing, some to winter and skiing, and some (like us) to great weather.

Okay Steve, I am soooo jealous! You are sooooo lucky to have such a variety of fruit trees and flowers... Take care!

Teresa,

I agree that we live in a really great area, but you live in a really beautiful area and the leaves are going to be changing soon. We don't that very much. :)

Steve - makes me feel a little better about missing apple picking and pumpkin farms up north.  I have to say I am greatful the rain came when it did - it was an inconvenience but just what my trees needed.  We are looking forward to our grapefruit!

Shannon,

South Florida does miss out on the apples, Chritmas tree farms, pumpkins, cornfield mazes, cider, leaves changing and other fall activities from the north, but we get 6+ months of delightful weather, oranges, grapefruit, beautiful sunsets, migratory birds, and more.
