As the Beijing Olympics are drawing to a close, I think it's noteworthy of how much success the American teams have had - even those that typically don't do that well. Last night NBC was commenting ion this very story. Take for instance the men's water polo team. The coach of that team himself played for a gold medal for the US 20 years ago, but silver was the result. You have to go back over a century to 1904 for the last time the US men's water polo team won the gold medal. I'd say we're due.
The same thing is happening with many other American teams - men's and women's. It seems a little success is good for everyone.

I cannot believe how many gold medal winners for other countries live in the US!
Steve, I did watch it last night. They have the Silver Medal locked in. I didn't realize it has been over 100 years since the US team won the Gold. I agree, we're due for the Gold.
Rebecca,
I have to admit that gave me a shock as well. In one of the sprint races, there were people from various countries and most all of them were on the teams of US universities. Then there's all of the athletes who compete for other nations who live and train here. Pretty amazing.

Michael,
That's a serious dry spell - almost as bad as the Cubs - and maybe that will even come to pass this year.

I am not a big Olympics fan, nor can I say I watched one minute of it. I only know what I have seen on the news, but we seem to be doing well.
Carol,
You don't have to be a fan to recognize the achievments that many US atheletes are making - and the commitments and sacrifices that gone into getting there.

Steve - Our family have really enjoyed watching the Olympics this year. I'm glad that our country has received so many medals. The last time I checked, we were ahead in the medal count. I'm kind of glad that the Olympics are winding down, though. Maybe now we can get some sleep... :)
Debi,
I am amazed by how many sports are competed in the Olympics - tramolining, syncronized diving, bmx, etc. I know about the TV - we're an hour ahead of you.
Steve
The Olympics have been exciting especially with Michael Phelps success. Talk about setting a goal AND going for it!
Jay,
Michael is indeed an example of setting a goal, visualizing it, and accepting nothing less.
Steve
I have to admit I've been doing a lot less than I should have been doing the last couple weeks because I've been so caught up in the Olympics. I love watching underdogs succeed and those Americans that have worked so hard to repeat do it. It takes practice and a lot of it and these athletes work hard to reach their potential. There is a lesson for us all there and believe me I am taking notes!
Todd,
Very well expressed. I think you speak for many of us. Thanks for your comments, and we can all get back to work after today. :)
