A tropical storm Fay-vor

Well, Tropical Storm Fay is marching this way. So far it's just a big rainmaker - and we can use the rain. We can do without the wind, and as of right now we are just on the fringe of outer winds bands (maybe 40 mph winds).

Nature has a lovely sense of balance. Hurricanes and tropical storms - even stubborn fronts that dump lots of rain - are the great rain equalizers to areas that have been experiencing drought conditions. Even Georgia may get some much needed rain from this system.

If all we get is rain, than I will say thanks for the Fay-vor.

Well, we are concerned over in our area.  Our home is located on St Pete Beach just across from the Don Cesar Hotel if you are familiar with that old lovely hotel.

My husband is our putting up the hurricane shutters.

Wish us luck and I'll do the same for you.

Carole,

I'm surprised you have time to blog. :)

I know what a chore putting up the shutters can be. At least we don't have to that this time. I will be thinking of you.

Steve - Is it a hurricane, yet?  I'm hoping & praying that it stays a tropical storm.  Rain is nice...damaging winds are not...  :)

Debi,

We are in agreement there. No one is sure whether it will make to a weak category 1 hurricane or not or even where it's going exactly. When they told us we might get 4-6" of rain, I remembered how much you had back in the spring. Thanks for your concern. I think Naples, Ft. Myers and Ocala are going to get more of the storm than us. :)

Steve, hope you could stay dry and did not have any damage. This storm just doesn't know what she wants to do or where she wants to go. Yesterday at 1 pm our little town of Treasure Island put out a mandatory evacuation for Flood zone A not only do I live in A but my office is in A. . . .  Yes, we packed up all the computers, files etc. Than Fay changed here mind and till now we have not even had one dropp of rain, no wind at all and instead of rising sea level, we have the lowest that I have seen in a long time. So, we got lucky AGAIN  thank you Fay

Anne,

I'm glad you missed the storm - even if you did experience an inconvenience. We've had 6-7" of rain but not all that much wind.

Steve, Stay safe, and good luck to you.  Looks like this non hurricane is a lot of hype.  Fortunately for us, looks like it's going to slide just to our east of us.

Bob,

We're getting a good chunk of our rainy season right now. It's to our north, so it looks like it's going between us.

Hi Steve- same here in Central Florida's Coastal area.  Surprisingly we haven't even had that much rain.  In comes in gusts.  I hope the media's over-hyping doesn't create a sense of laissez-faire when it comes to future storms....it's the old balancing act, isn't it!

Gail,

The storm is moving slowly so you may still get some rain. I don't know where the TV crews went to get pictures of the howling wind but we didn't see much. :)

Steve - I think they took those shots from Cuba!  You don't suppose it's old video footage, gawd that would be unconscionable!!!

Gail,

Whatever gave you that idea? Cuba - could be. Maybe Key West.

Steve - Just checking up on you to see that you survived the tropical storm all right...  I hear you got a lot of rain.  Has it stopped, yet?  :)

Debi,

It's still cloudy with brief periods of rain and a few wind gusts, but we came through in great shape. There is flooding in many areas, but looking at most of my yard you'd never know we had over 6" of rain. Thanks for checking on us.

Dianne,

Wow, stay vigilant. There's no telling what's goint on with this storm. It may come your way. If it does, let's pray it doesn't have much punch.
