The calm before the storm

We hear this expression a lot, and even use it in various situations. With Tropical Storm Fay (destined to be Hurricane Fay) looming off in the distance, I'd say this expression applies.

Last night there was a full moon and pleasant temperatures for this time of year. Today, it's sunny. It's hard to imagine that all this may change dramatically in a few days. I've seen it happen before so I know what to expect.

I remember from my days living in the Midwest  that the same thing happens with impending tornadoes or blizzards - there's the calm parts before the storms. Eerie how it works out that way.

I hope it stays calm and that next week at this time we can say that Fay didn't bother us, but we'll have to wait to see.

Yep that same thing happens for us in the Myrtle Beach SC area as well.

Hope it passes you by.

I hope that Fay does not hit, chances are it will move up to us in Pa.  And I like to the nice weather.

Hi Steve,

I used to live in Florida; Port St. Lucie, Hallandale, Crystal River and Ocala.  I remember when the storms hit and how many tornadoes spun off from it.

You'll pull through, we always did!!!     ;>)

Adam,

I think that probably the hardest part is preparing and waiting and not knowing. It could miss us entirely or be a direct hit. It could come your way (hopefully not). Maybe it'll just fizzle.

Carol,

Right now, we're just in the wait and see mode. That storm can do anything - or maybe nothing. Thanks.

Ann-Marie,

It's not the actual storms themselves - it's the waiting for them to get here and the aftermath of cleanup. Thanks for your thoughts.

Better to be safe than sorry. Batten down the hatches?

Have a SAFE weekend and coming week. We will all be watching. Best of luck!

Steve - I'm praying that it will stay calm and that it won't affect you at all.  Stay safe!  :)

Bo,

Thanks for your concern and well-wishes. Mostly it's just a wait-and-see at this point. Filled up with gas last night before the lines got really long and got some last minute provisions.

Debi,

Thanks for your prayers. That the storm misses us - and all populated areas would be a good thing. Rain would be OK though. :)

Hey Steve, I haven't watched much news this weekend. Thanks for letting us know. I will start watching though, but keep us informed too! Take care!

Teresa,

Keep an eye out for your area also. No one knows for sure the track but they're looking for a turn toward the Carolinas after it crosses Florida.

Steve:  I don't think I'd ever be able to handle living in Florida, or any state with Hurricane potential.  I'll have to retire to Arizona or some place without those storms.

Chris Ann,

The thing is that we don't get that many and we don't get massive tornadoes or earthquakes. People always think of Florida, but Texas, the Carolinas, Virginia - even New Jersey and New York are vulnerable as well.
