What’s orange, grows in Florida, and is not a fruit?

The southern part of Florida (on both coasts) is the only place that I’m aware of in America where the Geiger tree grows. It has very vivid and bright orange flowers. It is truly striking. We have one in our yard, so here are a couple of pictures to brighten your Saturday:

Jim,

I hadn't seen it either until a few years ago. Actually saw it someplace else - didn't even realize we had one until it started blooming.

Hi Steve,  You have the most striking colors of flowers in Florida.  Are you living in paradise?

Dan,

Thanks. We like it. We have amazing colors throughout the year, and I'll post more interesting plants and colors as we go along - don't want to overdo.

Let's see...I would guess that it is the Geiger Tree!  Am I right?  Wow!  I am so smart.  Okay, so I peeked...  :)

It really is pretty.  That's a great photo...  :)

Steve - what a vibrant color! I have yet to make my way to Florida, and you've given me yet one more reason to see your lovely corner of our world.

Karen,

Thank you. What a lovely comment. They don't bloom for very many days in a row but we've had blossoms 2-3 times this year. The same is true with some of our our flowers.

Steve, I saw one of these trees a couple weeks ago and asked about it, but no one seemed to know what it was called.  Thanks for sharing this.

Bob,

I can't think of any other tree that has orange flowers like this - probably are some just don't about them. Glad you got to see one.

Eva,

You have trees and plants in Tallahassee that we don't get here - Florida is such a big state. The Geiger is really a stunning tree - when it's in bloom.
