Several times this weekend I have been bogged down by unresponsiveness in posting comments or returning to previously viewed pages. After a little while, the action times out and I get a "Proxy Error" and this message: "The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request. Reason: Error reading from remote server."
Then I close Active Rain and try to reopen it only to be told that it can't find "activerain.com" - which we all know is not possible. I wait a while and eventually get back on, and then here we go again.

I've been getting these "Proxy Errors" also. Just another Hiccup in the system which I'm sure the AR gods will fix. It can be quite frustrating though.
Sean Allen
Not sure what they are but I have seen them as well. I just come back later if I have time...
Sean, thanks - didn't know if it was just me or not. Thought it might be the system, but you just never know.
Gary, I think the one thing they are is aggravating. I sure don't know what causes them. You lose whatever you're trying to post also.
I had the same problem. I have learned to copy my work before I hit the submit button. Saves on the swear words...
Leslie, I guess more people had this issue than I thought. It would nice if AR would tell us about issues thy're experiencing so we'd know about them - but then we wouldn't be able to blog about them. :)
I think it's when they are working behind on the system. It happens a lot lately. Thanks for pointing out my stupid error! Of course I meant Z. Doh!
Georgina, I guess it must be system issues. AR has grown so rapidly - I sure wouldn't want to maintain it. As for the "Z" I was aware of it because I use it like 50 times a day. :)
Steve - It was such a dumb mistake... I also use it a lot, and the X too. I'm glad I was able to correct it before too long.
Georgina, the idea was sound, and after all the "Z" and the "X" are right next to each other on the keyboard. I actually have hit the "X" when I meant to use the "Z."
I lost 3 blogs last night because of this problem, I thought it was just me!
Cindy, it seems to be somewhat prevalent. Sorry you had to experience. too.
All a proxy error means is that someone (ok, some server) forgot the secret handshake between machines.
Then when you get the message that activerain.com can't be found it just means that it is embarassed by the forgetfulness and has to go hide and regroup before meeting the public again.
But yeah, it is frustrating as all get out to lose all that witty reparte or super important stuff that we are trying to gain points with. (This comment gets no points, it's about my 20th or so today).
Mike, thank you for that explanation. It is frustrating, but I had no idea what it really meant behind all the secret code words.
Steve, as they say down under in the land of OZ,
NO WORRIES!
Mike, I like that expression - it seems to fit sometimes. Thanks for adding it.
I don't know what it is, either. I've had the same problem this weekend. I'm sure it is just a temporary glitch... :)
Debi, it's really amazing. You think that you're the only one with a particular issue - that it's your computer or somthing you're doing, and then it turns out that lots of others are having the same issue. Thanks, :)
I've had some issues on and off all weekend. I can't say it has been all bad as it kick started me to get off my butt and on another project!
JoEllen, that's certainly one way to look at it. Hope you've gotten some blogging done as well as some of those other projects. Thanks.
Still Getting this error June 10th.
Tom, I am too. In fact, this is only the second time all day I've able to post 2 consecutive comments without having that dreaded proxy error kick me off.
Still happening
Don,
It is still happening, and it is frustrating. However, by switching from Internet Explorer to Firefox, whenever I get the proxy error thing or other similar message, I just hit the back arrow and resubmit. It usually goes through the second time, and I don't lose anything I've typed. Also, when you get the message, check what you were trying to post. Often, it will post anyway.
Steve
I've gotten this message twice this morning-- thought it was my system. Guess it's growing pains. Glad to be growing though!
Debbie,
Sometimes it's like rush hour traffic - there's no way to avoid getting it - and there's no way to know when it's going to happen. The firefox really does help - so does patience. :)
Steve
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

Betty,
Thank you. I'm glad you found my blog and that you are following it. Please visit my other one at homesalesinsights.com also. What you said is fine. Comments don't have to be elaborate or anything special. :)
Steve
March 2010... and Proxy Server Errors on Active Rain are rampant, daily and frustrating. One spends all of the time to create a posting for it just to be lost. Disappointing Acive Rain.
If you use Firefox, even when you get a Proxy Error, your comment or post usually is uploaded although you won't know for sure until you actually get the page to load. :)
Steve
Steve,
Did you ever get AR to respond to what this error message is or what we can do to prevent it?
I don't have any problem writing the post but I can't upload my pictures!
Maybe I'll just go break something..........like someone's neck!!!
Lucky :)
Lucky,
You can only upload pix if they are a low resoultion. I email them to myself in "small" and then save them in zn "AR Photos" folder. Then they work fine. :)
