Size does matter

In an interesting twist on an oft-emphasized subject, size really does matter - but in this case not the large size but the smaller variety.

In a world of rather tall people (not me - I'm just 5' 7"), isn't it interesting that all of the prize money and all of the bragging rights and all of the time, money, and effort focused on today's running of the Kentucky Derby (and other races like it) all come down to the small-statured jockeys to maneuver their mounts around the racetrack and guide their horse to victory?

Steve - Jockeys are incredible athletes, there is a lot of talent packed into those small packages.

Debbie, you're so right. Just think trying to manage all of that "horsepower" in such a tight environment with everyone else trying to get the best of you, with mud and dirt flying into your face ...

Steve...

I enjoyed the race ... all the up to the tradgedy of Eight Bells. Kind of took the fun out of it.

Richard, I'm with you. It was a hard contested and very strategic race with a very sad outcome for the runner-up horse and its owner, trainer, jockey, and supporters.
