Whatever the outcome of tonight's game - and I really don't care - the game should not be played. It's already been played. There are are only two possible outcomes tonight, and neither prove anything.
Either LSU wins again, showing that they can remain undefeated by beating the same team twice. If Alabama wins, both teams will have one loss for the season - to each other - and there will be no champion because they will have identical records of losses.
There are other teams that would like to have a shot at this game but were denied by BCS protocol. Any of those other teams - any of them that has not already played LSU or lost to a team that LSU beat - versus LSU would provide the better one game matchup and interest the country as a whole. The SEC is the only conference with anything to gain from this game - either way.
There can be a playoff but the BCS won't hear of it. They are meeting tomorrow to discuss a 4 team limited playoff. Forget it. There were 35 bowl games this year (and could be even more) - let them serve as the venues for the pairings. Have 3 play-in games and let the rest serve as the first round - or use all 35 sites for the various rounds with a field of 64 or so teams like March Madness.
I'll watch the replays after the game because I will not watch it. I am an avid football fan, but I am protesting the BCS's staging of this game.

EVERYONE KNOWs the championship should go to USC... but restrictions til next year and all... I feel like saying, "We'll be back". (Said like Arnold...)
Here Here......go Boise State.....it is a flawed system for sure as we keep seeing!
Steve- I have to admit tonight's game is very anti-climatic. They really do need to come up with a better system.
I am an Avid Auburn fan and hate Alabama with a passion but this will be the match of the century and the winner is the champion no one else could beat either of them, the best coaches, the best teams are playing as much as I hate to admit it.
Steve
You make a interesting point.
Good luck and success.
Lou Ludwig
Linda,
Everyone?? :)
Steve
Deborah,
Boise was impressive - especially with Kellen. :)
Steve
Kathy,
Minor tweaking planned and that's it. Very bureaucratic system that favors the powerful. :)
Steve
Charles,
I wouldn't go that far. :)
Steve
Lou,
Thank you. :)
Steve
We really enjoyed the game tonight! My Alabama wife and I attended friends Bama / LSU party complete with our Alabama atire on. Both teams played hard and clean but Bama did an outstanding job and came out #1. I am proud of how they played and the class they showed in not trash talking LSU before or after the game. Roll Tide Roll!
You are right Steve, the only winner was the SEC. We need a playoff. This just showed the regular season did not count! Enjoy your day!
John,
Impressive win. Why didn't they do that a few weeks ago? :)
Steve
Wayne,
So many ways to structure a playoff - top two teams from each conference, one entry from the small conferences and 2 or 3 from the bigger ones, bowl game qualifiers, one or two play-in dates - so many ways. :)
Steve
Steve, Sorry I missed this post earlier. I agree, even with the outcome I can't help but think that the NCAA is really the loser in all of this, (besides those schools who were left out). I know that I didn't watch the game, and to be honest, I hope that there were very few veiwers, then maybe ESPN will clue in that it is time for a playoff!
Tony and Darcy,
Thanks for the support, but I think they signed a 5 year extension last year. It doesn't matter what the fans think. :)
