As the World War II generation ages out and passes on, we are losing the opportunity to connect with and thank those that had a real hand in saving the world from Hilter and totalitarian rule. On Monday, we recognized "D-Day" plus 67 years - the day when the Allies landed on French beaches to begin fighting a land war in Europe. At a minimum, veterans of this event are now in their mid-80s in age. Many are older.
Also on Monday, we lost a major hero of that War - U.S. Air Force Major General John R. Alison. He led a mission to create an airbase behind Japanese lines.
In 1943, he and Philip Cochran were picked to deliver British soldiers and equipment by glider behind enemy lines in Burma. The mission was a huge success.
Alison received the Silver Star, two awards of the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart.
Let's remember our veterans while we can.

Thanks for the great article. My father was a navigatior in the AF for 26 years. My father-in-law was a pilot with the AF and a Pearl Harbor Survivor. They are both buried at Riverside Memorial Cemetary with many other brave men and women. Our country is free today because of all of our service personel. May we always remember and fight to remain a free country.
Kristin,
Thank you and thanks for the service of your father and father-in-law. :)
