My computer came back last night. How appropriate that it was Valentine's Day. We owe so much to our computers.
They can be moody and temperamental, but try living without them.
My desktop went out over 2 weeks ago. After an endless series of troubleshooting and diagnostic steps, HP finally had no choice but to conclude that it was a hardware issue. They sent a part. A technician came to install it. The part that was shipped was defective.
Now on to part two. Send the computer away to one of their facilities. That was done and it came back last night.
My notebook stepped in performed extremely well. It's just not the same, however.
Now. I'm in the process of putting everything back. It's not unlike moving. Putting things away, figuring out where they should go, discarding some stuff, finding new homes for things. We are making progress, but we're not there yet. A few more days ...

Steve,
This is exactly why I clone my hard drive every couple of weeks. Something goes wrong with my desktop, I just pop in the cloned hard drive into a new pc and voila...everything is back where it belongs. No reloading operating systems, applications or data files.

Oh boy....i am getting ready to switch over to a new Laptop as this one is giving me so many problems...but man will I miss my old freind!!! LOL
Steve, Having been through that I went out and bought a cheap desktop as a back up while I went through permutations of what you describe. It's come in handy.
Doesn't Carbonite back all your files daily for a low price of $50 a year?
Good for you, Steve! :)
I use three different computers daily, for different reasons. They are all dear friends and would be missed...
Yeah, it's a good thing it's fixed now.
My computer, hard to live with since I am a techy challenged guy, but impossible to live without! Getiing organized is a process not an event. Good luck!
Steve, I'm glad your notebook performed well during your interim period...and I'm sure it will be a relief when things get back to normal and you're on your desktop again! :)
Leilani
Rich,
I had the notebook, but wasn't quite the same. :)
Steve
Deborah,
My last transition was easy. Maybe it'll surprise you. :)
Steve
Matt,
Would you believ I have 2 dead desktops that were supposed to serve that purpose? :)
Steve
Sussie,
Yes. It wasn't the files. The motherboard and processor went out. :)
Steve
Krista,
Thanks. :)
Steve
Paul,
If you count my iPhone, I guess I do too. See what you mean. :)
Steve
Chirag,
Yes, I finally have everything restored. :)
Steve
Wayne,
Man was not meant to live without the computer. :)
Steve
Leilani,
Thanks for those kind thoughts. :)
