No Safety Net

Last night's BCS Championship game between Oregon and Auburn came down to the last play and the last second. The score was tied 19-19 with 2 seconds to go when Auburn kicked the winning field goal. Congratulations to both teams on getting to the game and to Auburn for prevailing.

As the Auburn kicker got ready for the field goal attempt. he really should not have felt much pressure because he had practiced for this very instance - and the worst that could have happened was overtime.

Many times we don't have such a safety net where the worst that could happen is overtime and a chance to still win, We put a lot on the line to win the sale or the appointment and when we don't get it, we may have lost the opportunity to do it again - with that person.

Having a safety net is fine but it gives us a crutch. We may not try as hard knowing that we can fall back on a "Plan B" and still have a good outcome. Therefore, we need to be as prepared as possible when we go into the sales encounter or attempt to develop a sales lead.

Let's not wait until the last second either to go for the win.

I was able to stay awake for most of the game, but I missed Oregon's touchdown that tied the game and the field goal at the last moment.  These late games kill me.

Steve, It's amazing when just a little bit of extra preparation makes the difference!

Steave,

I had to stop shacking before I could comment.

This sounds like devlopment! Been there done that!

It also reminds me of a story my first partner told me.

One real estate devloper says to his partner:

"I've got good news and bad news,

We've been aproved for the $50,000,000.00!

So what could be so bad?

Weve got to have a $5,000.00 comitment fee by Friday!"

Been there done that, too!

Thank God!

There is always more than one way!

Ann,

It was late - and sloppy at times - but a close game. :)

Hi Steve, I didn't see the game but I like how you tied it in to doing it right the first time.

I fell asleep at 19-12 so I missed a great and fitting ending to a Championship game !!!!!
