So we didn't need the $8,000 tax credit after all. It was nice but it just artificially moved the demand from the past few months into the summer. Now the free market principles have allowed demand to move past that siphon and is once again showing a growth in sales.
According to NAR, existing home sales last month were the highest since June - underlining the point.
People need homes, and market manipulation is not the way to achieve it consistently.
This time of year people like to be in a new home for the holidays, to start the new year, and for tax reasons.

"The Free Market Works"
Of course it does!
The free market has always worked!
The question is just what markets are free?
I've always suspected that "Farmers Markets" were the closest to truly free that any of us will ever see, but with business licenses, sales tax licensees and such just how free are they?
Just how free can farmers be, with the goverment subsadising converting food to gas?
Housing hasn't been a free market in our life time, we've just never had an anti-American Congress and President before.
Merry Christmas.
Bill
The sad part is our kids will be paying for the mistake of the $8,000 tax credit for their entire life. We hooked up the housing market to a breathing machine when it was breathing just fine on its own and then we billed the American tax payers for the use of the machine.

Hopefully Americans can realize what our government is trying to do and vote these yahoos out of office before we all become dependent on government and we are officially in a socialist society.
It could be record low interest rates that seem to be creeping up now that have helped this rebound also. My job is to get as many people through the process while the market is in flux!
Steve
The market will recover through the free market, not through artificial insemination.
Good luck and success.

A hands off policy is what the market needs...all markets.
Congratulations this post is now featured in the Silent Majority Group of Active Rain.
Bill,
A lemonade stand or vegetable stand is a classic free market - except where regulated. Merry Christmas! :)

Steve, It seems that my local market is also showing signs of recovery despite the president trying to kill it.
Mike,
That is great news. Don't forget to thank Ben and the Fed for their help in destroying the economy. :)
