In something you don't see everyday, one environmental project has been stopped by another.
Wind power is one of the government's favorite causes and supported by people seeking energy independence and clean, renewable energy - even if it is relatively inefficient and expensive to construct and operate. The government was all set to fasttrack approvals for 7 projects to be located on public lands when 4 of them (including the 3 in California) when the plug was pulled. They were trumped by another environmental concern - those people wanting to protect the golden eagle.
Now the wind projects have been stopped and may not continue. They were being funded by stimulus dollars and had a time deadline connected with them as well. This delay could mean the loss of funding, a very long delay, or possibly even not going forward at all.
The Department of Defense has jumped in as well claiming that the wind turbines can disrupt radar signals on some of their older tracking stations.
So, maybe wind power isn't the answer people thought is was because there are significant issues involved in expanding the program.
Back to the drawing board. Meanwhile, let's get Congress to override the President's edict and authorize offshore drilling going before we lose out to competing nations.

It's ironic that the tree huggers got stopped by one of their own rules! I agree that we should continue our own off shore drilling and stop supporting Brazil (Soros) in their drilling! If it's a problem for us why is it okay for everyone else?
A LOT of HOT AIR and it is NOT all in DC.....
Drilling for oil is certainly the remedy for our short term energy needs but we can probably all agree that we need a long term energy plan in place so we can start developing alternative energy sources that will be economically viable in the not too distant future.

A lot of the programs coming out of Washington is shooting from the hip.
Good luck and success.
Lou Ludwig
This is getting real ridiculous and sad to be called American governance - we used to be the envy of the world!
Gerard,
Very well said. Thank you. :)
Steve
There was a time when hydro-power was "the answer"... and then the same people that said it was the answer started complaining that it was stopping up wild rivers.
There hasn't been a change... except the location of the target. They keep moving it.
Wallace,
Wind power is not what we have been promised. :)
Steve
Keith,
Agreed. Coal, nuclear, and food byproducts are all viable. :)
Steve
Lou,
Yes, so many feel good, knee-jerk ideas. :)
Steve
Nick,
Leadership is definitely lacking. :)
Steve
Lane,
Hydro electric is fantastic in places where it can work. :)

Green vs Green, costing us more green. Where is the common sense?
There are so many problems with wind it isn't funny. Europe has estimated that their programs kill upwards of 2 million birds per year.
The other problem never spoken about is that about 5000 gallons of oil are sprayed every year from the motors, killing all vegetation within many yards of each tower. They are "working on the problem..."
The government seems to be inefficient in just about everything they do. They should have leased the government lands and let a private entity take care of the wind farm.
Paul,
It isn't there. :)
Steve
Jay,
Plus the localized climate is affected around the wind turbines. All in the name of saving the planet. :)
Steve
Rob,
But then they would have ceded control. :)
