We know that it is the Christmas season by certain reminders or indications that we see - Christmas carols being played in the stores, Salvation Army bellringers in front of stores, holiday decorations up and down the street, Christmas cards and emails, and Christmas sales and specials being advertised everyday.
Another way, unfortunately, to know that it's Christmas is the uptick in the phishing emails we get with all of the schemes on how some widow, terminally ill person, serviceman in a war zone, or long lost relative wants to share their fortune with us.
Yesterday, I received 6 of them. Today, the number is at 8 and the day still has several hours to go.
Theses people are certainly into the spirit of holiday giving - only they want us to give to them. Stay safe and far away from these people.

There's always going to be people "using" whatever (holidays) to sell . . . even the non-scammers among us can use the holidays to market. HO HO HO
Steve,
I appreciate the reminder. There is always someone out there trying to take advantage of the moment.
Have a good Holiday!
Steve- good reminder for us all. We're so busy focusing on the holidays, family, work!, that we forget to keep our guard up!
Steve, and there are so many good, honest causes out there that need our supposrt especially now that it's especially difficult to sort out some of the scammers. Thanks for the warning to remain vigilent in discerning the truth.
Steve,
It seems that the scammers will sink to any level to try to get a bite
Steve - Yes that's the unfortunate thing about the holiday's is that the schemers come out in droves... Be careful out there
I recently had someone come to my office attempting to sell jewlry.... ummm, didn't look valuable to me in the first place and I sent her to a pawn shop with cameras.
Steve * my cleaning girls came to me with a request for $$$ for a family whose utilities have been turned off and husband is in the hospital. I gave them $$
I've also given $$$ to refurbish some computers at a local low income apt complex * the $$ is being controlled by another board member who is actually buying parts at cost and doing the labor himself.
Being CAREFUL also means being CAREFUL with our $$$
Steve, thanks for the reminder about the scammers out there. Unfortunately, there will be a few who will fall for it.
Steve It is holiday stealing, plain and simple. I am always amazed at the creativity of the crooks and all of it for no good
Carla,
This does seem to be a peak time for the phishing. :)
Steve
Michele,
