Lisa Murkowski, the current Senator from Alaska, and loser of the Republican primary, is continuing with her "sore-loser" mentality. She shouldn't even be on the ballot. She had her bite at the apple in the primary, and her party rejected her in favor of Joe Miller. Not to be deterred, she ran as a write-in, and with the help of the Alaska Supreme Court was able to hand out cheat-sheets to early voters on how to spell her name (and the other 399 registered write-in candidates).
Now, although it appears she may actually win the election which was held 9 days ago, she is complaining because Joe Miller's team is challenging some of the votes she received as not counting.
Maybe Alaska should just forego the primaries and forego the qualifying and just have anyone who wants to run register at the elections office and do the whole election as a write-in. They should have all the votes tallied, (and recounted and recounted) and be able to determine a winner by the time the next election came around.
Alaskans would seem to deserve a better process than this.

The vote is the vote if the voter can't vote properly, the person counting the is not a mind reader. Sorry to say if you don't vote correctly the vote doesn't count.
A voter needs to be competnet enought to vote correctly.
Good luck and success.

Steve, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. More than one old-style Republican wasn't happy with the primaries this year, even in our own state!
Wow.
A former Republican acting like a Democrat. That's what cost us power last time,
Bill
When the courts over rule the actual statutes and "rewrite" the law without a vote from the people - they are legislating from the bench which is unconstitutional - but a write in in Alaska has to be spelled correctly - but the courts ruled the intent of the voter should be considered - that is rewriting the law and I can't stand that
Steve - not condoning the actions, but, this has been somewhat the norm in closely contested races this year, taking it to the streets courts. There was vocal disappointment that Foley in Connecticut? conceded without taking it to the courts. Perhaps it people put as much time and effort into their legislative efforts there wouldn't be so much time and money put into the courts to resolve elections.
I saw yesterday that they were still going through all this........anything new? I haven't paid attention to any news yet today.
Lou,
Voter education is not like it used to be. :)
Steve
Sharon,
Florida is proposing a "Sore Loser Act" in honor of Charlie Crist that would keep a primary loser from running in the general election. :)
Steve
Bill,
As she's no friend to reduced spending. She's a RINO at best. :)
Steve
Nick,
Totally agree. :)
Steve
Mike,
We've developed into a nation where it's hard to accept any ruling that goes against us - and some take that to the extrreme and keep trying until they get the answer they want. :)
Steve
Ann,
They're still slugging it out. :)
Steve
GOP/tea party needs to hire Bush Florida re-count attornies and get them to Alaska ASAP.....Joe should not be doing this along and the election officials need to be brought back to the LAW
It is a very strange race indeed. Did they ever get an outcome?

Lisa won.... well at least it appears she did. I owe Steve an apology. I posted something snarky on here yesterday, then deleted it a few minutes later. However, I know he got an email with what I said and it wasn't nice. So, Steve, let me rephrase:
This is Alaska's election for our national representative in the US Sentate. We have a closed Republican primary, which is how this louse won the first round. Once he won the primary, Joe Miller started doing some really strange things, and when he got caught he lied about it. Then he lied some more. He did some seriously bad things, and Alaskans turned on him. We BEGGED Lisa Murkowski to run as a Write in, and we put our money and our votes where it counted.
Joe responded by contesting votes, not just for spelling errors, but even for poor penmanship. Also, on the ballots, the names were written as follows: Miller, Joe ... Republican. McAdams, Scott... Democrat and so on. So some people wrote in Murkowski, Lisa ... Republican or even just Murkowski, Lisa to follow the exact format of the listed candidates. Those votes were contested!
Thankfully this nightmare is almost over, even though it has left yet another stain on our state. While Lisa isn't perfect, it beat the alternative. In fact, those snazzy little bracelets are a fashion statement!
Wallace,
No not that. No recount teams. We do need stronger voting rules that everyone understands. Forget about intent. What is the legal marking? :)
Steve
Micahel,
As of today - exactly 2 weeks after the elction - the answer is no. :)
Steve
Debbie,
Thanks for the second comment. You are correct about being closer to the action and knowing what is going on there. The post was about two things really - the primary election process - which in Alaska, Florida, and Deleware needs some help, and the way votes are counted or allowed. Here 2 weeks out, we still don't have a winner. If Lisa wins, I do hope she enthusiastically embraces the new Republican platform. :)
Steve
Thank you for being so gracious, Steve. Yes, it appears it is over except for the lawsuits. For a more local perspective, feel free to check this out from the Anchorage paper.

The closed primary elections are really tough on states like Alaska where most people register as independents. As to Lisa, what we do know about her is she is a concensus builder 99% of the time. She has friends on both sides of the isle.
Debbie,
Thanks. After the waste and excesses we've seen in the past few years, we need to break this cycle. Hope she can be an effective Senator. :)
