Why do we even bother to have primary elections other than they are good sources of revenues for radio and TV stations as well as printers? Supposedly, candidates interested in the office run in the primary to be selected by their party and then face the other candidate in the general election.
Now we have people like Lisa Murkowski in Alaska who lost the primary but is mounting an extensive, and possibly successful, bid to win as a write-in candidate. She had her chance. She lost. Too bad. get over it. There's always next time. Don't understand how she can be polling so high now. Even the Supreme Court of Alaska is on her side saying that early voters must be given a piece of paper with her name on it to write-in on the ballot if they so choose.
Then in Florida we have Charlie Crist who saw that he couldn't win the Republican primary so he dumped everything an became an independent.
Either we are ging to have 2 campaigns - a primary and then a general, or we are just going to have one election. This non-acceptance of the will of the people to do an end-run and manipulate the general election is just not working. Florida is even considering a "Sore Loser Act" which will preclude people (like Charlie Crist) from running in the general election if they have been defeated in the primary.
I sure hope sanity prevails and we elect people who love the Constitution and agree to obey it, but I have my doubts - given what I'm seeing.

Some people just won't take no for an answer. Especially in politics. They are going to worm their way in somehow.
Steve
Charlie Crist will be running for president in 2012 with Lisa Murkowski as the vice president as part of the Sort Loser Party. And that my story and I'm sticking to it.
Good luck and success.

I will be pleased when the election is over. I am getting about six calls a day, all recordings of course.
Steve - unfortunatley, choosing to run, even after defeat in the primary is not unconstitutional. And I would hate to see any state enacting laws that would effectively protect the two main political parties. That being said, it should be obvious to people that the likes of Crist, Murkowski, that guy in Delaware, et al, cannot be counted on to keep their words since they all at one time or another, but mainly when it looked like they would be the beneficiaries, would support the winner of the party primary.
And with Crist, don't I recall him saying that he would absolutely NOT run as an independent? And obviously he holds his Republican principles close to his heart, since he is open to caucusing with whomever gives him the best deal...
Cheri,
I guess they are the priveleged ones who know more than us. :)
Steve
Lou,
Good one - it could happen. :)
Steve
Steve,
If I got any calls I didn't know it. :)
Steve
Mike,
I agree but think that the outcome of a primary should be binding on the candidates in it. :)
Steve
Lane,
He said so many different things, it's real hard to keep up. :)
