The Greatest Leader In Our Country's History

Rahm Emmanuel's patronizing remarks to President Obama standing alongside him yesterday, he said that Obama had to "confront some of the toughest challenges of our time" and that he "had the guts to make the tough calls to stop the freefall and saved our country from the second great depression." Really? You mean save us from the freefall that he caused?

Then he went on "You've taken on some of the most powerful interests in this town to stand up for the American people." I guess I missed those. I thought he was catering to the unions and the banks. Never saw our interests being considered at all.

Then, the real clincher was "I thought I was tough, but as someone who saw first hand how close our nation came to the brink, and what you had to do to put America back on track, I want to thank you for being the toughest leader any country could ask for, in the toughest times any President has ever faced."

Toughest times? Any President? Brink? Let me see. Wonder if James Madison would agree as he fled the White House as the British were burning it? Wonder if Abe Lincoln would agree as he saw secession and Civil War? Wonder if Andrew Johnson or Bill Clinton would agree as they faced removal from office? Wonder if FDR would agree on December 7, 1941? Wonder if Harry Truman would agree as he made the tough call to dispatch the Enola Gay? Wonder if JFK would agree at the Cuban Missle Crisis? Wonder if Reagan would agree as he faced down Gorbachev? Wonder if Carter would agree as he saw skyrocketing interest rates and Iran taking our people as hostages? Wonder if George Bush would agree on September 11, 2001?

Either we are living in a time of unprecedented greatness and leadership or Rahm has been living in a parallel existence. Look out Chicago.

Great post, Steve. Too many people have forgotten the truly "tough times" our country has faced.

Steve - Excellent post.  Rahm Emmanuel must be smoking those funny cigars.  Did he fail the American History in school?  I forgot they don't teach history in school anymore.  Shame on the new generation!

What is right is made to look wrong and what is wrong is made to look right. In God's eyes sin is still sin and that will never change. Our politicians only serve themselves, under the control of the unions, and banking and corporate greed. Our world in changing and our country has changed, we have lost our freedoms, and are slaves to debt and our debtholders of course.  The United Nations has just posted this!

UN Agency Warns of Unemployment-Related Unrest through 2015

The specter of demonstrations in Europe are not only likely to become a regular news item, but other economies have high odds of similar social stresses, a UN agency forecasts. The International Labour Organisation has pushed back its estimate of when global employment will return to pre-crisis levels back to 2015. Given the widespread signs of discontent, pressures can only intensify. From the Guardian:

The United Nations work agency today warned of a long "labour market recession" and noted that social unrest related to the crisis had already been reported in at least 25 countries, including some recovering emerging economies.

Crisis-hit Spain faced its first general strike in eight years this week as unions protested against the government's austerity measures and labour reforms. The strike on Wednesday coincided with protests in Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Slovenia and Lithuania, as well as demonstrations in Brussels by tens of thousands of workers from across Europe as part of a European day of action against public spending cuts.

"Fairness must be the compass guiding us out of the crisis," said ILO director general Juan Somavia. "People can understand and accept difficult choices, if they perceive that all share in the burden of pain. Governments should not have to choose between the demands of financial markets and the needs of their citizens. Financial and social stability must come together. Otherwise, not only the global economy but also social cohesion will be at risk."

Raymond Torres, lead author of the ILO's annual World of Work report, published today, warned governments against withdrawing fiscal stimulus measures while the economic recovery was still weak.

Torres said there were two main reasons for the bleaker outlook facing many countries: "The first is that fiscal stimulus measures that were critical in averting a deeper crisis and helped jump-start the economy are now being withdrawn in countries where recovery, if any, is still too weak," he said. "The second, and more fundamental factor is that the root causes of the crisis have not been properly tackled."

They can post this because they have created this mess, along with cooperating governments around the world, and mostly our own government working towards this debt crisis they themselves have amassed. Working towards a one world system. We are but pawns to their game.

In November, please vote them all out! Term limits would help, and budget limits. And can you believe how much these politicians pay for all of those negative ad's?

Nell,

It's a real shame - and an embarrassment - to have to hear these remarks from the mutual admiration club. :)

Rosalinda,

Thank you. They don't teach our history anymore. It's frightening what schoolkids and young adults don't know about our real past. :)

Paul,

Would love for the UN to move elsewhere or just go away - neither will happen but I can want it. Definitely, vote them out one month from today. :)

Richard what gets me is how he said his Parents came here to be the best they could and live free.  Why then are you helping our president get Government control over more and more of our free enterprise system?

John,

Because they are the enlightened ones. They know what's best for us. :)

That is so much BS I can smell it from here.  Fortunately I didn't hear those words - reading them was sickening enough...

Jay,

I heard them so I could report them. He was so smug it was disgusting. :)

I think that most of us have a somewhat less optimistic view of what is going on.
