Governor Charlie Crist, taking a page from the Obama playbook, wants to permanently ban all offshore drilling in Florida. Mind you, he can't stop other countries from doing it - just us.
He has convened a special session of the legislature - at an expense of time and money we don't need.
The best thing for Florida would be for the legislature to meet, recess, and go home - with no action taken. They can do this. I hope they do.
Otherwise, they are supposed to draft a proposed Constitutional Amendment for the November ballot.
Let's call this Crist's Folly.

I agree. With the current action by the federal goverment of banning offshore drilling, they probably have permanently sent home the drill rights and will cause thousands of jobs to be lost for no good reason.
Steve thanks for the post and the heads up regarding Mr. Crist's plan. I hope that he re-thinks this plan.
Do we ban air travel when there is a crash or autos when they crash? The total ban makes no sense when you consider the loss of jobs etc.
Crist could give squat about Florida. He is fighting for his place in national politics. He should be a leader - not a politician but he is like all the rest!
Crist is really showing his true political colors. It's already illegal to drill in Florida's waters. Why waste time and energy on a special session.
Steve, it's an election year and he's going to be on the ballot. Enough said.
Edward and Celia,
One leak, and it's Chicken Little time. :)
Steve
Melissa,
He won't, but the legislature can and did. :)

Steve
Gary,
I think that sums it up. :)

He wants to make a name for himself by creating a permanent ban. :)
