Arizona's SB 1070 - the so-called illegal immigration bill - doesn't even go into effect until next month, yet many of it's detractors are showing their ignorance.
Because the federal government refuses to enforce the law prohibiting illegal entry into our country, Arizona has added that it is illegal to be in the country illegally.
Preseident Obama has openly criticized the Arizona bill which uses the same language as the federal bill already on the books - guess he doesn't like it either. Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary (and former Governor of Arizona) Janet Napolitano both openly oppose the bill, but neither has read it.
This is even more shameful considering the Attorney General is supposed to uphold the laws of the United States (including non-leagl entry into the country) and the Homeland Secuirty Secretary is supposed to be concerned with securing our borders.
Then you have Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rep. Ron Paul coming out against the bill. Major League Baseball is against it. Los Angeles County is against it. Don't forget the Highland Park, Illinois School Board.
What are they against? Illegal entry? It sure sounds like it. Oh, they are concerned that police are going to harass people and stop them for no cause. First, that is a violation of the provision of the bill, and action could be brought against them for that. Second, they have real policework to do.
Essentially, the bill allows or permits local police, within the scope of their normal duties, to check the immigration status of people they stop - using the existing federal guidelines.
Wake up people. You either support law enforcement or you don't. We are (or at least we were) a nation of laws.

Steve, as an immigrant myself, I find the whole thing rather mind boggling. If you don't have nothing to hide you shouldn't have to mind producing some form of ID if asked. Seems to me only the illegals would have something to fear.
If Obama had actually read the bill - just like Obamacare - would it really matter?

All the usual pundits are out there bashing the law and as typical the American people are much more in favor of the Arizona law than are the jerks in Washington and the liberals in Hollywood.
USA Today had a poll on their site just yesterday. 48% of Americans want an Arizona immigration law in their state while only 35% oppose it. Again the LEFT IS AGAINST the will of the people on this issue. The people want illegal immigration stopped and these criminals off our streets.
