While this was a beautiful spring day in South Florida, I expect it was not a pleasant day for letter carriers across the country. We got our long awaited (10 year since the last one), much anticipated (with all of the hype how could we not be waiting to get it) 2010 Census form.
No, I didn't open it. Threw in the pile of sale flyers and magazines. I'll open it later.
It's amazing the amount of money that is being poured into the marketing of the Census - not unlike the amount of money that is spent to win an election. Maybe there's a connection there.
Well. I'm sure that letter carriers across the country are glad this day is over. Since the survey isn't supposed to filled out until April 1st, I wonder how many will be lost between now and then.

I know its a important process, It does seem like the money spent there could be used somewhere else. Like maybe to fund USDA loans. Did they really need the Super Bowl Commercial? Aaron
We got our forms today also, it was kind of anti climatic, don't you think Steve?
Aaron,
No, they didn't need the Super Bowl commercial, but the network, the NFL, and the agency are glad they did it. :)
Steve
Paul,
Totally. They couldn't even do better than "Resident" on the envelop. :)
Steve
Steve all I am answering is my name and how many people live in my house. Let them show me in the constitution where i need to divulge private information.
Steve.. You have a valid point.. and one I did not think about. The money it cost for the govenment to send this out. I still haven't received mine.. but it will probably arrive either tomorrow or Thursday at the latest.
Steve
A lot of money has been wasted on this.
Good luck and success.

Steve,
What started out as such a simple concept has morphed into another government boondoggle.
Rich
John,
That's all that technically is required. :)
Steve
Valerie,
Over the years Congress and the President have created entitlement programs and revenue sharing that is tied to population. That's what this is all about. Greed. :)
Steve
Lou,
Yes, it has, but it was in the budget - so oh well. :)
Steve
Rich,
Love the new avatar. So right. :)
Steve
Here too - the stats are used for a number of reason - i know - and not all good - but its so important that we have accurate data......I'm realized it more and more as I'm studying their impact and relevance in almost everything you learn.......
Liz,
It is literally impossible to have accurate data. All someone has to do - intnetionally or not - is omit an answer or get it wrong. At least with a pure headcount, you have a better chance of coming close. :)
Steve
Steve, we got ours as well. They are asking some personal information that I think they could get from the driver's license division or social security administration.
Silvia,
They don't need it at all, and you sure don't want them exchanging information with other agencies. :)
Steve
Steve, don't worry about filling it out, you can "deem" that it's been completed.
Jon,
Wow, you're right. Consider it done. :)
