Help The President Refocus

In his first year in office, President Obama gave 411 speeches - on health care, cap and trade, global warming, employment, the stimulus, cash for clunkers, and other such issues and programs. When did he have time to govern?

As a public speaker and teacher, I know that preparation, travel, delivering the material, and winding down from an event can consume several hours. That said, at a pace of over one speech a day, how was there much time left for anything else? No wonder he delayed his important Afgan troop decision for months - he was simply too busy campaigning and running around the country to focus on security.

Now, he wants to investigate the BCS in college football. As much as I dislike the BCS and have laid out plans for a playoff system, the President, the Congress, and the Justice Department definitely are out-of-bounds on this one. Fifteen yards for unsportsmanlike conduct.

In the first place, they have no standing.

In the second place, they have no standing but are trying to say it may viloate antitrust laws. Funny since the athletic directors and the coaches at major schools affected support the BCS.

In the third place, there is a contract in place between the schools, the BCS, and the networks through 2015. Normally, this would be enough, but we know how the President feels about breaking contracts - just ask the GM and Chrysler bond holders and franchisees.

The President's number one priority is keeping us safe. He is willing to do everything but this, including making up things to do that he has no business being concerned about as President.

Steve I just saw him and Biden at the Duke Georgetown basketball game.  I think that is what he does best watch basketball.  I sure hope he is gone in three years.

I agree, he has a lot more to do than worry about the BCS in college football.

What do you expect from a community organizer?  A beer on the white house lawn?

John,

I say again, when does he have time to focus on anything important? :)

David,

Thanks. He's free to have his opinion about the BCS - as many of us do, but that's where it stops. :)

Steve, it's things like this that make me wonder about his mental well being. With all of the important issues at hand, where did he pull this out of?

Steve

Well I guess the number one item on the presidents list is now the BCS and "ramming" through the Congress. Forget about the economy, jobs, the security of the country, it's the now the BCS.

Good luck and success.

Lou,

Next it will be which teams didn't get into the March Madness that he thinks should have. :)

Steve- I would submit that after keeping us safe, his second duty is to help create some jobs in this county. He has been absent on this point as well.

Steve,

Once again, this another example of a "misplaced" priority for any politician.

Kevin,

I'm going to have to disagree with you here - maybe it's just semantics. The President is incapable of creating jobs. We are the ones who do that. Now, he can can stop his over-regulation and taxation policies to encourage new business formation and growth - and encourage banks to make A&D money and lines of credit available. We should not look to our government for anything except to keep out of the way. :)

Rich,

They - the President and Congress - need to go back to the rulebook - also known as the Constitution. :)

Steve - Obama is just a puppet - there is no preparation when you have a teleprompter - its when the teleprompter fails is when Obama is in trouble -

You forgot all the parties at the White House with all those celebrities - more than any president in history in the first year -

Obama has no time to govern because he its not his job - he is only the puppet

Steve- I agree exactly with you on the jobs. He needs to basically get out of our way. But, by being in the way, he is killing jobs. He should put some time and effort into reducing regs and backing down the govt pit bull.

Nicholas,

I think that is a fair assessment of the predicament. :)
