Listen Between The Lines

The President just announced a spending freeze - and likely will talk more about it tonight. It is a trick. Do not be fooled into thinking that this is anything good - far from it.

The budgets were run up last year - double digits over the already high 2008 numbers. Then many (but not all) were frozen. Careful. This does not mean that there is no increase. It means that they remain at the the 22 or 35 or whatever percent they increased in 2009 over 2008 levels. Freeze. Not hardly. More like stonewalled - especially since the "frozen" budgets cannot be restricted, and spending can't be cut for three years.

The President has found a way to make an end run around the Congress and the Constitution.

More manipulation with our money - and no seat at the table.

Steve - it is all eyewash.  The budget for this year is already approved, there is billions still sitting in the bailout funds and I am sure there are other projects that we are not aware of.

Steve we can't give them any slack.  Freeze all spending or at least slow the growth tied to inflation.  Also cut taxes for business and people so they can hire and spend.

If you look at the numbers, his proposal would apply to only about 11% of the budget. And you know even that's a lie.

Steve

You are correct, the freeze also means that your not cutting a inflated budget,

Good luck and success.

Steve - the spending freeze will be about as noticeable, to the deficit, as a fart in a hurricane!

I heard the same thing Steve.  Spending freeze = trillion more spending each year!  What dolts some are.

Spending freeze sounds like jobs saved to me.  Same old same old.

This morning the CBO is stating that it would amount to less than 1% of the budget.

Ignore everything he says, and watch what he actually does. He's incapable of the truth!

Tim and Pam,

If it isn't spent now, it goes away. Zero-based budgeting. :)

John,

This freeze is just a game. Eliminate funds not freeze them. :)

Mike,

It's not the freeze we need to look at but the entire size of the pie. :)

Larry,

A freeze is the same as a guarantee of spending for those amounts. :)

Jon,

I think it's more that he is trying hard not to tell us the truth because it's so scary. :)
