You have to admit that these professional phishers are clever.
I have received several emails the past couple of days telling me that my AIM account (AOL Instant Mesenger) has been flagged as inactive and that I need to go to their link and update my information.
At first, it caught my attention, but then I realized that I don't have an AIM account - no wonder it is inactive.
Keeps us on our toes. Can't wait to see next week's scheme.

My wife asked me about an email on a PayPal account last night...Have not used PayPal in 5 years. Told her to skip the click. These phishers will get you or not stop trying!
The y are quite creative and when you get out on the net the emails jump exponential. After blocking many It gets better.
These people are getting very bad. They set up sites that look legitimate, send out tens of thousands of emails and fool people into revealing passwords and account numbers. Not a week goes by where I don't get something like that. When these people are caught, they should do serious jail time.
Be sure to collect your lottery winnings...and that piece of the fortune from thr Rich Uncle you can't quite remember in South Africa...who buys into this stuff ?
Hi Steve,
I can just tell you, trust your instincts, "if it doesn't feel right don't open it". I do that and have been very lucky I haven't gotten psished yet!!! ;>))
Why would someone want to update their information with an inactive product or site????
Gary,
Many of those "PayPal" phishes look authentic. :)
Steve
Laura,
You're right. Blocking helps. Some of the approaches are so clever, however. :)
Steve
Malcolm,
It's hard to catch these people. They are so clever, as we all know. :)
Steve
Sally and David,
So true. I get at least 3 offers a week from Africa - somethimes as many as 10. Don't know which one to pursue so I'm taking my time evaluating them. :)
Steve
Ann-Marie,
You just haven't bitten, but the phishers are still there. Keep up your guard. :)
Steve
Marc,
Because the phishers make it sound attractive. :)
Steve
Steve...
I get some from "banks" that I have never heard of before.
Richard,
I get that, too, but it seems to run in cycles - haven't had any in a while. :)
Steve
Steve,
<you really do have to be alert. Some of the scams on the surface seem pretty real.
Steve I got the same email and didn't even take the time to read it because I saw it was from somewhere I also knew I did not have an account at. Someone of these emails are just so ridiculous.
These scams are never ending, thanks for the heads up.
I see that every day. These phishermen are not as smart as they think they are =)
Your friend in Washington State,
Paul
Steve,
They really do - that's the danger. :)
Steve
Bill,
Because they look official, sometimes it's hard to tell - even if we are almost certain it doesn't apply. :)
Steve
Jon,
Apparently they are worthwhile for someone because they are unceasing. :)
Steve
Paul,
It only takes one - and most of know or have heard of someone who took the bait. :)
Steve
Steve.. It is the seniors and children (that don't know better) that I worry about. Some times I have to do a double take to make sure it is not valid. I feel sorry for anyone who falls prey to this.
Thanks for making me aware of yet another scam.
I got that same "phish" Steve. I thought at first to be serious, and came to the same conclusion you did! They are becoming more and more "creative" as time goes by.
Steve how may calls do you get from out of state that tell you they have a buyer in your area?
I get them from banks I've never banked with, Paypal on an email I've never used Paypal with, and so on. In the rare cases when I think the email might be legitimate (for instance, if it doesn't have typpos or grammar mistakes!), I type the bank or Paypal address directly into my browser... no clicking for me! I do worry about the seniors who think they have to respond, though.
You have to love getting all that spam mail.
It's definitely a resource people are taking advantage ofmore and more..........i got caught one, but not again!
Valerie,
You're right. Even those of us who are cautious can almost be tricked. :)
Steve
Myrl,
They are putting so much energy into being deceitful. Pity. :)
Steve
John,
Fortunately for me very few, but I know this goes on. :)
Steve
Shoshana,
Thank you for that great response. People take heed. :)
Steve
John,
Right! :)
Steve
Liz,
It is so tempting, That's why we really have to be diligent. :)
