The "health care reform" bill which is an oxymoron in itself has an even worse official moniker. The health care bill that was originated and passed by the house retained the same number when it went to the Senate, Thus, H.R. 3590, the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" was approved without a single Republican vote in favor.
This is reform? This is bipartisanship? This is necessary? No, to all of the above.
Don't you love the cute marketing name they gave the bill - "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act"?
Tell me, which patients does it protect? The terminally ill? The elderly with degenerative conditions? Those on Medicare who will see their benefits and services cut? Unborn babies? Illegal aliens?
How about the affordable part. It has so many tax increases in it that I'm not sure they even know how much this will cost us. Then there is the creation of a whole new bureaucracy and provider network if the government option is included. Don't forget the increased cost to cover the people who still aren't included as well as the young people who are required to enroll but won't.
Then there is the increased cost due to inevitable reduction in research and development of new drugs and the unknown costs associated with waiting longer for treatment.
If Congress really wanted to be honest with the American people (which clearly they don't), they should have labeled this bill something like "The Tax Us Out Of Existence Act" or "The Give Government Control Over All Aspects Of Our Lives Act" or "The Throw The Constitution Out The Window Act."
What's that? You say it would never pass if it had a more honest name. Good. That's the way it should be.

Steve, I agree completely. I hope those who wanted "Change" are happy.
Damon,
Thanks for your support and agreement. Just 296 days until November 2nd! :)
Steve
If this weren't so serious it would be comical...
Your friend in Washington State,
Paul
Paul,
I agree. A TV sitcom couldn't be written any better than this. :)
Steve
Many of these dems are using this as a badge of courage before they get thrown out or, better yet, run back into their holes like weasels! Sorry weasels!
It has been the greatest scam in American history! It is the greatest power grab by one party in American history since Welfare which have kept the poor poorer and dependent upon liberals for decades.
None of our lawmakers who are pushing for this have read it. None understand nor can they explain how it will work. To vote yes for this law it is dereliction of duty and a crime against the American public.
Why are they so willing to knowingly destroy their political careers? Pass this at any cost! This is part of a much larger power grab by the powerful in the shadows.
Gary,
I'm glad you apologized to the 4-legged weasels. :)
Steve
Nicholas,
in the history of federal power grabs, you're right. This is the most aggressive and egregious. :)
Steve
Bonnie,
Well put. Agree with all you said. :)
Steve
Steve - I believe that this is all a big scam. It's make Madoff look honest. The drug companies have been promised something by the administration to be quiet, as well as the insurance companies. Why else would they be so willing to go along with it. It's just a way to increase taxes in a major way.
Pelosi has to go before we can get back to a normal economy.
Elizabeth,
Great observations. Don't forget Reid. :)
