This is change we can believe in? Passing bills that the public overwhelmingly opposes just to satisfy some hidden agenda. Buying votes in the House and Senate - nothing short of fraud and bribery? People abandoning their principles because of the promise of cash for them and their district? What if that cash never comes through? No matter, the vote will have been cast and the damage done.
Unbelievable!
We are seeing the evolution of a new species in Washington. The spineless, gutless politician. Not much good for anything productive. Haven't seen any recent polls but I imagine they now a have a solid hold on last place in the hierarchy of respect Americans have for various occupations.
There are very few members of the House and Senate who actually take their oath of office seriously. Uphold the Constitution? When was the last time they did that? Oh, that's right, they probably have read it yet.

Yeah so much for representation of the people. Very of our concerns are ever even considered. I just don't see why they would attempt to pass something that hardly any US citizen agrees with. Be it health care, or global warming or more taxation.
Very well put. I think the middle of the road, centrist dems are a bit worried although they have not made a move yet.
Hey, Steve.
Which bills are you referring to that the public overwhelming [sic] opposes?
As far as buying votes in the House and Senate, you need to brush up on your American history. Back room deals have always been done. The difference now is that you get to see up close just how those deals are done. It's the transparency that President Obama promised us, although I suspect you really don't want to see 100% transparency because you'll wonder how we've made it 233 years.
As Senator Nelson said this morning, change is not easy. No, it's not,. Neither is the status quo. As my wise old grandmother said, "If you want to stay the same, you have to change." If we want to remain at the top of the world, sitting on our past laurels isn't going to keep us there. The world has caught up, and many countries have even surpassed us in some endeavors.
A new species? Nope. It's the same old, same old using the same two species. It's just that right now the Democratic species has the upper hand. After eight years of the Republican species having the upper hand, I'm quite happy with that Democratic species exerting its influence for a change.
David,
I guess the simpliest explanation is because they can, but they have totally abandoned any integrity and should be summarily voted out of office. :)
Steve
Gary,
Thank you. They are going to have to make a choice and then we we get to make our choice. :)
Steve
Russel,
Thanks for pointing out the typo. As for American history, the health care, cap and trade, TARP, and so many other bills proposed and enacted under both Obama and Bush (and going back even further) and both Republican-lead and Democratic-lead Congresses are unconsitutional. No other way to say it. And we've had it. No more. :)
Steve
Steve - I am irritated by some of the national associations and their willingness to lend their name in support of a bill... As to buying votes (or buying support), the national association often justify their stand by indicating that their support is premised upon "Boy, the original bill was alot worse... this is the best we can do."
The senator from Louisiana Landrieu-D who I abhor held her vote until Obama gave her $300 million for her vote. How you like that? Your money my money and anyone else they can steal, borrow or beg it from.
Ryan,
I am with you. NAR threw their support to cap and trade because they were given assurances about the inspections - and we all know how much those assurances are worth. NAHB gives approval to some aspects of other bills "in principle." NAR, NAHB, National C of C should be against any bill that is bad for the American small business person or independent contractor. No condition support. It raises taxes, vote no. It promotes more regulation, vote no. It hurts competition, vote no. Simple really. :)
Steve
John,
Landrieu, Nelson, and the list goes on. Spending money they don't have from who knows which fund to pay for a vote to enact a program we can't pay for. Very nice. :)
Steve
How about transparency behind closed doors in the middle of the night. Mr. President tare down this wall of secrecy and make this bill available to the people it affects. Be proud of this bill, that has to be past before Christmas for some strange reason...
Your friend in Lacey, Washington!
Paul
Paul,
C-span? Wasn't that mentioned several times as well? Maybe Reid get a big bonus for doing this. :)
Steve
Steve - It is so disheartening. Washington insiders are not about what's right for the country, Its about whats in it for me, or at least my constituents back home. Doesn't matter if it stinks for the rest of the country.Look at the estimated $7 Billion in earmarks attached to the defense budget.
Greg,
Sometimes those pet projects affect so very few people that hardly anyone "back home" even knows about them, :)
Steve
Steve
if a private citizen did what they are doing in Washington they would be in jail. We all need to continue to speak out and vote according in November 2010 and 2012.
Good luck and success.
Lou Ludwig
Lou,
I agree. The lack of ethics and integrity in Washington is not something we want to condone. Vote for real change in 2010 and 2012. :)
Steve
Transparency? You mean when Obama promised C-SPAN would cover the wheeling and dealing and that it wouldn't take place out of site? And how many of those bills have been written behind closed doors? Not even the rank and file Democrats are allowed in the writing sessions...
And Bernie Sanders got $10B. Mary Landreiu got $300M. Ben Nelson pulled down $45M/year forever. If this were a private industry, there owuld be jail time.
Lane.
And we are the stockholders. The Board and CEO need to be changed. :)
