Seeing new phishing expeditions are nearly a daily occurrence. Some are very clever and almost trap us. Some are very obvious. Some are potentially more dangerous than others.
I've seen at least 6 or 7 new phishing schemes this past week, but this one is funny. I'd thought I'd pass it along.
Yesterday I got three similar emails within a short period of time. The subjects were "Long time no see!" "Haven't heard from you for a long time" and "We haven’t seen each other for a long time." We'll there is certainly a good explanation for the lack of contact - I have no idea who these people are. It's not a bad line, however.
If you've got to phish, you might as well make it entertaining.

They are always working a different angle. I don't know all the detail of the schemes but there must be money it for them or they wouldn't continue to do them.
Steve, so true - the more that we get our name out there as Realtors - the more odds are that we will increase the spam and phishing.
I have seen a few of these as well. I have learned to delete and remove from computer.
I am glad you are spreading the word
Mark,
I'm somewhat baffled, too, but you always hear about someone loosing several thousand dollars on one of these. :)
Steve
Tim and Pam,
That's true. We work hard to maintain a good presence, and they come right along and try to capitalize. :)
Steve
Paul,
Sometimes the titles or subject lines provide interesting reading. :)
Steve
I get these all of the time! So annoying, but I've learned to co-exist with them.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Kathleen
They seem to be coming from a certain crowd . You would think they would be fairly easy to trace and be prosecuted.
If I do not know you I don't open it - period. I may have lost business this way but at least my data has been safe.
I'm actually very excited because I am now worth million$ as I have been chosen by 3 people(this week) outside of the US to share in their overwhelming inheritances !!!
Steve, the one I have been getting recently comes on as if they are a buyer "I'm interested in the property you have listed"...when you open it, the email is all about signing up for their marketing service to help you sell. It pisses me off...I'm posting the listing and you found it?...so if you are not a buyer cut the crap.
I like to eat fish not phish. Peolple always trying to rip one another off or whatever.
Steve, I guess this is one of those things that will never go away. All we can do is keep as many people informed of these scams as you are doing here...I do the same and will continue to.
Kathleen,
Good attitude. You don't have a lot of choice. :)
Steve
Robert,
They mostly are just annoying. I'm irritated at getting them, but "delete" works fine. :)
Steve
Steve,
This is someone's idea of lead generation that they probably heard at a seminar. :)
Steve
Gary,
You don't have to open it it if you look at it in the preview pane. :)
Steve
Michael,
Me too. I also have been named to Who's Who. :)
Steve
John,
It is unscrupulous activity that I don't understand. :)
Steve
Nick,
Thanks/ There has been one going around the past couple of weeks supposedly by "Facebook" telling you your password has been reset - "for security purposes." :)
Steve
Steve,
I one time got sucked into one of those years ago...signing into my ebay account. I changed the password very fast when I saw what was up. Felt like a dope. It was a pretty good fraud. It came as an Email, that looked like Email and it was a "seller" who said he was mad I had not paid for my purchase and he was reporting me. I had the option of clicking to go into Ebay to see the problem. I did so and then realized the scam, I had given them my password. I was sucked in because, in that time period, I had bought a few items on ebay.
Steve,
I have seen that, also PayPal and online banking scams just like it. :)
