Lemmings To Vote For Health Care

The 60 member Democratic caucus of the the US Senate should be relabled as lemmings. Earlier today, President Obama had all of them dutifully report to the White House for a closed-door meeting, and when it was over, the President gleefully reported that we were on the "precipice" of a deal to get health care passed.

All 60 members - even those who have expressed reservations or displeasure with the bill - are now on-board. One can only imagine the arm-twisting, bribery, deals, threats, and other actions to get everyone to acquiesce.

Dick Durbin said over the weekend that he has no idea what's in the bill but that he'll support it anyway. Well, how could he or anyone else know what's in the bill? Parts of it haven't even been written yet.

Remember being chastised by our parents not to jump off a cliff just because some other kid did it? That's what we have here - 60 people who didn't learn their childhood lessons.

Public support for this bill is now lower than it was for Hilliarycare, and it may pass anyway. How is this government of and for the people?

I got a big chuckle over your description of this serious issue. Hope I'll still be able to smile about it later.

This is incrediable why do we put up with this.  They are using our money and bribery to deals.  On something 61% of the people do not want and they are not covering everyone over 24,000,000 will not be covered and it will cost us all more, there is no public option and they will decrease Medicare.

ARE THEY STUPID!

When congress goes home for the holidays they should come back to the hill with their left over boxes so they can start packing. They will have 10 months to start looking for another job.

This is the most naked bare-fisted power grab I hope to ever witness in my lifetime. I've written my Senators begging them not to turn this in to a socialist or state-run economy.

Joe Lieberman the traitor fell victim over the threats against his wife and will sign the bill.

Communists are running this country.

This is not government of the people.  obama thinks "he knows best" for all the ignorant public.  But he might have a point.  He has so easliy managed to LIE over and over...and a large amount of the public has bought it.  *roll eyes*

READY FOR YOUR PREMIUMS TO RISE...for stuff you don't need of course.

Mandates are word of the day!

"...fourteen states now require all insurance plans sold to cover infertility treatments, regardless of the patient's need or desire for these services.  Other states ban the sale of insurance plans unless they include coverage for massage therapy, obesity surgery, pastoral care, and wigs.

What effect do mandates have on the cost of health insurance?

  • According to the National Center for Policy Analysis, just 12 of the most common insurance mandates currently in place raise premium rates by as much as 30 percent.
  • The State of California forces over 50 such mandates on the employer-provided (group) insurance market, but not on individual plans; consequently, it costs three times more for California employers to offer insurance than if a plan is privately purchased.

In mandate-heavy states, consumers are denied the option of buying low-cost, basic health insurance plans to cover major illness or injury.  They cannot choose to save money by paying out of pocket for ten-dollar pneumococcus pneumonia vaccines and ninety-dollar mammograms, thereby reserving health insurance for significant expenses, explains Halderman."

Vickie,

It will be a lot easier to smile when some of those rascals are voted out. :)

Nicholas,

How can they have any idea what's in the bill? Sections are being taken out and added, amendments are being offered, and some content will come after it's passed with placeholders. It needs to be 1-2 pages maximum so that we all can see it, read it, and debate it. :)

Nicholas,

Refer to Durbin's comment. It's just follow the leader. :)

Kevin,

If it passes, I would think a good campaign promise for a Republican candidate would be to vote it's repeal. :)

Georgia,

Thanks for the the primer on mandates. It is frustrating to have to purchase coverage that is unnecessary or even inappropriate (maternity, for instance). :)

Steve,  You were brave using the "bad" word.  I almost fell over when I saw your title.

We are paying for every bit of this bribery - it will be tacked onto the health care costs we don't need.

These people sicken me.  They are like a ring of prostitutes.  Falling our their backs for the best cash deal.
