The Unelected Elite

We are being governed by two major groups in this country that are neither elected nor accountable to the citizens.

The first groups is the Presidential csars (what a name). These people have made-up authority and jurisdiction and report only to the President. In some cases they supercede and duplicate Cabinet Secretaries. No one in Congress (Article II, Section 2) has authorized these csars or approved them.

The second group that is actually running our country are the non-elected staffers of Members of Congress. These people, along with lobbyists, research and write the bills. In many cases the Members of Congress don't know what is actually in a bill, relying merely on what they are told by their staffers.

When a 300-page amendment to the Stimulus Bill appeared at 3:00 am on the morning of the vote, do we honestly think that Congresspeople were up half the night typing away on this tome?

The senate Finance Committee yesterday approved the Health Care bill without actually seeing it because their staffers hadn't written it yet.

If Congress really disdains their duties that much that they have to rely on underlings to do what they were elected to do, it's time we shut and locak the doors of Congress until January, 2011.

[it's time we shut and lock the doors of Congress until]

FOREVER.

The original raison d'etre for Senators/Representatives was to disburse information when Pony Express was the only way.

We have access to all the information in this new age. Do we need em?

This is just the tip of the iceberg.  What they're doing to this country is criminal, and the people need to wake up and take their country back.....

Candice,

Interesting take on the communication issue. Maybe if Congress met like the State Legislatures do - a month or two every year. :)

Bill,

It is criminal - certainly unconstitutional, and we are the only ones who have the power to act. :)

It only gets worse by the day. Has America awakened enough to change those in office in 2010? Heaven help us if they are not awake enough to flush obama in 2012.

John,

I'm counting on 100 seats changing hands (not necessarily parties) in the 2010 election. :)

Steve:  You've forgotten the third, and largest unelected contingent running our Country:  Corporate lobbyists.

Chris Ann,

I alluded to them in the drafting of the bills, but you are quite correct. Thanks. :)

One of our Founding Fathers spoke directly about this, and how it would lead to the fall of our nation into tyranny or collapse.  I will try to find the name and quote from my politcal debate site

Can you believe how many great men founded this country, yet we have 536 A-holes running it now.  Not a great one in the bunch.

I fear for America's future.  Are we spending our self's into the annals of history like the U.S.S.R. did not so long ago?

It makes no difference to those who control credit what laws are made and by who.

This is a great point Steve that is overlooked for the most of us...

Ross,

There are many that act like they are above the law - and some apparently are. :)

Paul,

Thank you. It's unfortunate that this is true. :)

Here is the way to correct Congressional staff...  Increase pay to $1m/yr.  ALL expenses need to be paid from that $1m.  Staffs would shrink... fast.

I think they consider the American people a bunch of fools. I think they're about 45% right!

Lane,

I like that. I also like one staff member at home and one in Washington - learn to live with it. :)

Jon,

They probably laugh at us as much or more than we laugh at them. :)

Steve,  the Senate Finance committee passed the bill without knowing how much it will cost or what it says?  Financial concerns must not be a duty of the finance committee.

It truly gets worse every day.  Look for the Acorn machine to be out in force for the 2010 elections.  They may have to change their name but they will be there.

Steve.. We probably don't see half of what truly goes on.  It is disgusting.  Our forefathers would (are) rolling over in their graves.

Bonnie,

It gets worse each day and we learn about more and more. We can stop it but it's going to take a lot of us to do it. :)

Valerie,

Part of the corruption that goes on is due to the size of this behemoth. :)

My little plan would certainly get Congress to start looking at costs... if only in the office.

Posted by Lane Bailey - REALTOR & Car Guy (Century 21 Results Realty) over 2 years ago

Lane,

It would do that, and it's budgetable and trackable. :)
