Today, Congress, in one of their most important votes of the session, decided by a margin of 240-179, with 5 others just voting "present," to censure Joe Wilson of South Carolina. I just bet he is devastated.
The language of the censure was harsh and sent the message that he had messed up real bad.
What did it say? The core of the rebuke was this: "Whereas the conduct of the Representative from South Carolina was a breach of decorum and degraded the proceedings of the joint session, to the discredit of the House: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives disapproves of the behavior of the Representative from South Carolina."
Diapproves? Wow, I guess they told him. I hope he's properly shamed by this resounding scolding.
And we thought Congress didn't actually do anything.

Steve, I have no doubt he was quaking in his boots. All I can say is GOOD FOR HIM in not caving and apologizing again. He apologized once, the President accepted it ENOUGH!!
If nothing else, it was worth seeing Nancy Pelosi's face when Joe Wilson uttered that word...
The way I see it,
Paul
This seems to pale to the exchange between Cheney and a senator who was told to "go f--- yourself". I've concluded that pretty much anything goes after that and little will surprise me.
He apologized to the President, and that should be enough. They need to just drop it!
Ouch. Such harshness. Then again it's more than our elected officials got for all the check bouncing they did in the 80's.
I too am glad he didn't re-apologize. Good for him. I hope he gets re-elected
Marchel,
Agreed. Isn't this so typical of a do-nothing (except spend) Congress? :)
Steve
Paul,
I missed that. I just love the entertainment value of today's carryings-on. :)
Steve
Richard,
If there are rules of conduct, enforce them. Offending the decorum is a pretty nebulous thing. :)
Steve
Myrl,
I agree, but this Congress just keeps posturing and campaigning. Won't do them any good though come next November. :)
Steve
Kim,
It would OK if he gets re-elected, but I still would like to see a 100% turnover in the House. :)
Steve
Hey, maybe the House should fling one of those censures at Osama Bin Laden. That's pretty powerful stuff.
Seriously, I hope that ends this episode. Wilson acted inappropriately, Wilson apologized, president accepted apology. Congress censures Wilson for refusing to be publicly humiliated with a second apology. Oy. Enough already.
I have a feeling they just added another Million dollars to Wilson's campaign pledges by those who wish more Republicans would speak louder in opposition to what is happening.
If congress could work this fast on real subjects that are important to the rest of Qmerica...we may get somewhere.
Patrick,
I like that Bin Laden approach - just might cause him to give up. :)
Steve
Alice,
I doubt that it hurt his chances any. Thanks for the observations. :)
Steve
William,
But keep in mind that we don't want them to. Zero progress is what we're after until they clean up or move on. :)
Steve
Watching government is sometimes like reading about the early days of the greatest show on earth...the circus.
Steve: Seems sort of sophomoric. I'll be the politicians of our countries early years would think our Representatives are a bunch of sissies. Whatever happened to strong opinions, vigorous debate and calling people out? Free speech is not always pretty, but free speech stifled is often a hallmark of totalitarianism, communism and facism.
Steve, Joe Wilson has never had so much exposure. I bet he wins his re-election by a landslide. If not, then I'm a Liar.
Steve, ok it's over....move on.
He apologized to the President, that "should" have been enough.
The donations are flooding in and they can't keep up with the mail. Enough said.
I think that one by one they should censure each republican in the house. That would pretty much stop them from accomplishing anything else and insure a Republican landslide in 2010.
This, coming from the same administration that doesn't feel it's necessary to investigate all of the tax cheats in the administration! I rest easier knowing they have their priorities in line!
I saw a news story relating to this the other day. You lie T shirts are the next big thing. Talk about stimulating the ecoomy. Good work Joe!

Steve,
At least the circus was entertaining and you knew everything would come out OK. :)
Steve
Matt,
And now free speech is curtailed in the House. I know there have been some shouting and name calling in the past. :)
Steve
Dean,
I think you may have the inside track on that election prediction. :)
Steve
Missy,
Ans yet they are still talking about it. Actually it's OK. That will keep them from anything important. :)
Steve
Hugh,
Love it. Let's see if we can schedule that. :)
Steve
Jon,
Oh, there's no question that these guys know how to tackle the tough issues and focus on what really matters. :)
Steve
Randy,
That's great. First, Joe the Plumber. Now, Joe Wilson. Next, Joe Voter. :)
Steve
I heard on the news that he has received over $2million in campaign contributions for his re-election since his "outburst". His opponent has received over $1.5 million. This could be a very interesting race to watch.
Karl,
You're right. Amazing what motivates people to take an interest in something. :)
