This afternoon my Blackberry Curve unexpectedly stopped being a cell phone. It started having convulsions, flashing data and changing screens faster that a stock ticker. It wouldn't respond to any buttons. Attempts to revive it through a change of the battery or massive reset were unsuccessful. It gave signs of coming back to life before its screen went dark for the last time.
Now. I have to replace my cell phone. Didn't see that one coming.

Strange, my Blackberry did the same this afternoon. Took the battery out and it finally came back too life and normal!
Blackberry Conspiracy or Death of a Cell Phone... almost sounds like the stuff for a novel! Hope your problems have been resolved and have a great Labor Day weekend!
Gary,
Maybe it's a Blackberry thing but ATT didn't say anything about it. Time to move on. :)
Steve
Silvia,
Thanks. Hopefully resolved by this time tomorrow. Have a great holiday. :)

Steve:
Yikes! I've become one with my BlackBerry® Curve 8900 ~ I don't like to hear such stories. Have a super-fantastic, phone-less, Labor Day Weekend.

Hi Steve
Time for a new cell phone.
Good luck and success.
Lou Ludwig
Steve,
My Blackberry Storm had a couple of spastic moments like that but it seems to have regained it's sense's. Sometimes, I really wonder what's going on inside that little black box. I guess it just needs to take a little vacation now and then!
Steve,
It sounds like you had a tragic day! I hate having to transfer all of the contacts and change all the settings in a new one! I feel for youl! It is just no fun! Find some time to enjoy the weekend!
Judy
Mott,
I really liked it, too. One of the best phones I've had. Had 6 Blackberry phones in a row. Onto something different now. :)
Steve
Lou,
It is. Didn't think I'd be doing this quite yet. :)
Steve
Nick,
Who knows what goes on inside those little devices? :)
Steve
Judy,
It certainly was frustrating, and now setting up a whole new phone and learning it. Yikes. :)
Steve
UGH- Isn't technology fun?
Steve - I've needed to replace, or at least service a few electronic devices recently. I'm also noticing that the battery life for cordless or cell phones doesn't seem to be as long as it once was. I think there needs to be more quality control. I had to laugh at my sister the other day. She said, "Do you remember back a couple of decades ago, when we were able to pick up a phone, call someone, and actually hear them?" She's right of course. . .Can you hear me now:-)
Allison,
It certainly is. Are we having fun yet? Always something to do to maintain it. :)
Steve
Myrl,
So true. How about being able to mail a letter anywhere in town one afternoon and have it delivered locally the next morning? :)
Steve
When mine starts doing weird stuff, I flip it over rip out the battery for a little while and give it a chance to reset itself. Hope this works for you. Technology is too fun sometimes.
Ouch....I would have freaked out. I love my curve and have not had any problems with it in 2 years.
But, If I have to reset it...it takes forever. I have so many contacts in there the little hour glass just spins and spins, so I hate to take the battery out.
I hope you have your data backed up somehow. It's a pain having to start all over again. Gotta be an easier way to do it.
Sounds to me like you'll be THROWING A CURVE! I would be!
April,
Taking out the battery made no difference in this case, but I tried that fix. :)
Steve
Missy,
Keep your fingers crossed. Mine worked fine for a couple of years, too. :)
Steve
Erby,
With Outlook, there is no reason not to have things backed up. I made it a policy years ago never to enter anything directly into my phone unless it was an appointment while on the road. :)
Steve
Hi Steve,
I had my BlackBerry Storm for about 2 weeks and I noticed the phone numbers were not being saved upon hanging up. Thus, new clients numbers were not saved, causing me to have to write each number down while talking to the customer. Not very good. Verizon tried to remedy but a programming error had occurred which meant a new "refurbished" phone and time spent waiting on it from Texas. Overall I am pleased with the Storm. You can also buy a fob from GE Supra and use your phone to open the Supra locks, except in areas like mine with few cell towers and poor reception issues.
Good luck and hope you are back on line soon.
Like all technology, it's a great tool when it's working right, but very frustrating when it goes down.
Steve: Take out the battery and start it again. My Blackberry Storm has that same "seizure disorder". Always makes me wonder why we try to jam so much stuff on one device.
Chris Ann,
Tried that 4 times yesterday and a hard reset. The ATT rep gave it last rites. It is gone, but thanks for the suggestions. :)
Steve
Jon,
Frustrating seems like such a mild word. How about lost, incapacitated?
Eddie,
Thanks. Unless something changes my mind in the next few hours, I'm going with the iPhone. :)
Steve
Steve, the Apple launch date for all their new stuff is 9/9. I don't know whether they are putting out a new wrinkle on the iphone (given they just did that, it's unlikely!)... I'm trying to hold onto my PDA and not put anything new into it until then, when I think I will have to switch to an ipod touch (3rd generation, coming out 9/9). Good luck -- I too never put anything in without backing it up, and my PDA has been dying for a month and refusing to sunch with the computer, let alone the memory problems and needs for resets. I'm with you about setting up a whole new electronic beast!
Shoshona,
Thanks for the information. Good luck with your phone, too. :)
