We are co-dependent on our government - and they love it this way. Every day they think of more ways to enable us.
Cash for Clunkers to help us buy a car that we may not want or need or be able to afford, the Housing Tax credit to help us buy homes (although it really doesn't - it just makes people feel better about doing it), Medicare and Medicaid as well as the proposed Health Care reform to make us look to the government for our physical well being and medical treatment, Cap and Trade to penalize us for using too much energy and make us feel better about it, the Payment Csar to tell companies how much they can pay executives, government motors to come to the aid of auto companies and large financial concerns to take ownership of them, and so much more.
Our government loves it when we look to them for our basic needs. In fact, they are a great enabler. We gladly go along. We are co-dependent.

Steve- They are also the holier than thou mentality elitists that want to shut the door on anyone else wanting to get in to the prosperity section on life. They got theirs and they will vote to keep their while they giveth and taketh as they see fit for and to the rest of us. We no longer count, they treat us like little children. The sad thing is we deserve what we get because we stood by so long without doing anything about it. We voted them on one side or the other into office and they are both of the same system, one party system. Now soon if we don't rise up, they will tell us what we can eat and how many breathes we can take. They will tell us how many children we can have and how to raise them, then they will tell us what the value of our lives are. History repeats itself, watch and learn from history. Katerina
I'm wondering if we would act different if we knew there was no crutch. I think about that daily, how creative would we become to support our families?
Well, some of us are not so happy about it. Actually, all polls indicate the majority are not pleased with much of the messiah's work. Actually, I see it as a 'disabler', not enabler. As the less we use our freedoms and our brains, the less well they function. The current administration would love to have the public as personnal minions just as it has the congress it's personnal minions. It is time to vote as many out in 2010 as possible and finish the job in 2012. Past time to put in term limits on congress and limit the president to 2 years with an interim election to permit the possibilty of 2 more. Hopefully much of obama's costly boonie-doggle ideas will never come about and those that do are so far out the next administration can eliminate them before they go into effect.
The news keeps getting worse when you learn about the Marxist Czars that surround him.
Steve - They just keep throwing up any roadblocks they can to stifle our freedom and liberty in the hopes that we will have no other choice but to look to the government for our every need. This progression has been taking place over many years and it's time we stand together to put an end to this power grabbing Congress and administration.
I would never have thought in the United States that would be be having Czars. That sounds like something coming out of Russia. Your post was right on!!!!
Yes Master Yes Master, and what is it that you want me to do now? As Wimpey used to say, "I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a Hamburger Today!
Yep and I heard this morning they were going to throw some cash for appliances...How did they know I needed a new energy efficient washer? If it were not 2009 I would think it was 1984~
Steve, If they were giving funds to help stock food kitchens or homeless shelters or job training programs, Iwould chear them because these are truly short term projects with long term positive results, but I just can't get worked up over subsidies for $30,000 cars.
It is all about "Unintended Consequences."
Like a child no one sees the consequences of their actions. In this case it was voting for the most liberal among Democrats to lead this country.
Katerina,
Thank you for your very insightful comments and for adding to the discussion. :)
Steve
Becky,
This is a great point. That's why we are suffering from this co-dependency mentality. :)
Steve
John,
You're right. This is the great paradox. The more it enables our depenency, the more more it disables our liberties. :)
Steve
Bonnie,
And unconstitutional csars at that, but who's going to say anything about it? :)
Steve
Donna,
It seems we might be approaching the tipping point where we can take our country back. Let's be diligent. :)
Steve
Marchel,
Right you are. Who would ever have thought this, but it goes back a few administrations. We just didn't catch on right away. :)
Steve
Edward,
Ah yes, Wimpey. What can you do for me today? Thanks. :)
Steve
Gary,
I imagine that anything that can be done to make us even more dependent will be on the table. :)
Steve
Hugh,
The point is that we should not be looking to the government for programs we can provide ourselves. :)
Steve
Alice,
I'm not so sure they are "unintended" but uncalculated. We just didn't know how far-reaching the change would be. :)
Steve
When the cash for clunkers giveaway ends, I"ll bet new car sales die off. When the tax credit for first time buyers ends, I think home sales will level off. In the meantime the unbelieveable debt that's accumulating will remain for decades, and the high interest rates resulting from it will slow down all economic activity.
Steve,
After watching Glen Beck today I am beginning to see for some it is extremely calculated.
We better wake up or it will all be gone!!
Jon,
Never fear. There are a lot more giveaway and spending programs to come. :)
Steve
Alice,
Calculated, orchestrated, and being played out by the marionettes. We are the ones who haven't appreciated the intentions of some. :)
