Congress is going on vacation. Let's make make them wish that they had decided to stay in Washington and actually work for their salaries. At town hall meetings or any opportunity we have, let's voice our displeasure in their arrogance and poor performance.
Congress doesn't read anything, so I guess we really can't be shocked that none of them have read Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution.
It's quite clear.
Forget health care, government motors, bailouts, stimulus, TARP, social security, medicare, cap and trade, and every other government program from here to there - whether you like them or not. Congress was never empowered to enact them.
All of these programs are unconstitutional and therefore inappropriate for the federal government to be providing.
Forget the "living Constitution." Article I, Section 8 is quite clear. Whatever is not vested in the Congress in those 17 paragraphs are reserved for the States or the people.
We are a nation of entrepreneurs - first farmers and craftsmen, then merchants and inventors, and now businessmen and women. We thrive on free enterprise, not governmental parenting. Government meddling and market manipulation are threatening our economic system.

The myth is we are a notion of entrepenuers. We never were. But we were a nation that and are still I think a nation that allows bright lights to shine and thrive. Hopefully that nation will continue
The American people need to wake up before it is too late. This administration and Congress thinks it must rebuild our 200+ year history and recreate a country in its image. It is our fault if we let them!
Charlie,
We originally were a nation of farmers, craftsmen, and tradesmen. Can't get anymore entrepreneurial than that. Total free neterprise. No myth to it. :)
Steve
Gary,
It is our fault and we must shoulder the responsibilty for correcting this misdirection. :)
Steve
Steve, I believe they have forgotten what their job is, and it's time the American people remind them. I see a lot of dissent around the now vacationing lawmakers, and it does my heart good.
Bob,
I do hope some of them get the message. Those that don't - there's always next November. :)
Steve
Steve - while I don't disagree with your displeasure with congress I do believe your strict libertarian interpretation of the constitution, while somewhat patriotic, is woefully antiquated. You can't go back in time Steve, society and our nation evolves. Our laws and our convictions can remain anchored in the ideals established in the constitution but they must also evolve and adapt to the present day.
Free markets do not exist Steve. They are controlled by greed, corrupted by the amoral CEO's who have no interest in anything but profits at any cost. They must be regulated or greed will over power the corrupt-able. You need look no further than the unregulated financial derivatives market that nearly bankrupted this nation. Or the OPEC cartel that controls oil production and therefore gasoline prices. Or the diamond market. Or the communications companies. Or agri-business. Or big Pharma and heath care. There are no free markets Steve, that's a fallacy you choose to believe, reality is far different. Each of these markets is controlled by the few who dictate all the terms, the government must try to impose a level playing field but they often fail because the misguided, like yourself, are attacking the wrong enemy.
John,
Like you I disdain BIG business. It is so far removed from free enterprise. However, free enterprise does exist and it does not need government restrictions or intervention save for public safety. The markets will police themselves given sufficient time and information. :)
Steve
Steve, you nailed it! Much of what's going on shouldn't even be considered. Since when are the politicians our masters who will decide what's best for us. WE THE PEOPLE are supposed to be telling them how to SERVE us!
Would that be like hiring people to shout down our legislators at town hall meetings? Bussing them in, and paying for their participation? Just like the Nazis paid the SA Holigans to shout down the leaders of the socialist party at town hall meetings in Germany. Aren't we proud?
Jon,
Apparently power is quite the reward. There is such a disconnect. :)
Steve
Terry,
Why hire anyone? Haven't you been following the tea parties? We are genuinely fed up - for free! :)
Steve
Steve - markets are not self regulating, never were, never will be as long as greed is in the mix.
John,
It's OK if you don't like free markets, but that's what got us pretty far down the path. Greed actually is a catalyst. :)
Steve
Terry,
You've finally figured out Acorn I'm proud of you.
