All of us who run or work for a small business - and I think that's probably all of us - have a bullseye on our back - placed there by the White House.
Virtually everyday, there is a new attack we learn about.
In no particular order, Cap and Trade, Consumer Protection Financing Agency, 30+ csars in charge of everything imaginable (with more surely on the way), takeovers, bailouts, TARP, Stimulus, and health care all tax and regulate the small businesses, reward labor unions, and make it increasingly difficult for entrepreneurs and small businesses to compete against the government.
No one ever gave the government this authority - they just took it. And we are continuing to allow it.
Today, the White House flexed its muscle again - as the majority owner of government motors (didn't we see this coming?). Congress finally feels that GM and Chysler (at the urging of the White House) were a little over-reaching in closing so many dealerships and creating more unnecessary layoffs and impacting local economies. So Congress wants to let some of the 2,600 GM dealerships and 789 Chysler dealerships axed by the takeover remain in business. The White House says no and is fighting Congress on this.
Letting the White House own an auto company was never a good idea.
Between the takeovers, the taxation, the mandates, the universal health care, the taxation, the regulation, and the taxation, small businesses are being targeted for elimination. Then, without the buffer of small businesses, the people will be taxed directly and will owe everything they have to the government. This is socialism - or worse.

steve i fully agree. I was wondering this morning about the Yes We Can Bunch here on AR. My question to them How is Business going. You did win and you let us know it so can we see some results? They are even starting to hide. I have staying power but most do not. I think things will get worse and no recovery in 09 or 2010. Mid term elections are coming and watch out Lefties.....
Steve, if there is any good to come from the government ownership of auto manufacturers, it may be when the companies fail, providing a vivid example of government interference in business.
I would have to agree. Where is this country going? To Hell in a Handbasket? I wonder about what is comming next.
Frank,
It may take a major change as a result of the 2010 elections to get some of this nonsense stopped or reversed. :)
Steve
John,
It may actually take that to wake up a few people. :)
Steve
Angela,
Thanks. Unless some serious changes in the composition of Congress happen in 2010, things are destined to get worse.
Steve - I was against the white house interference in bankruptcy and the subverting of the constitution. I think the manufacturers did have too many dealers, but, I think the way they dealt with it, at P.O.'s urging no doubt, was horrendous. I am tickled to see this rift between the whitehouse and congress. I hope it continues.
Mike,
That will make a good diversion and keep them from looking at health care and cap and trade. :)
Steve
Steve, very scary times we are facing. I think that many are starting to wake up but it may be too late by the time we as Americans stand up and say enough is enough.
Tim and Pam,
Thanks for your support and agreement. I am more encouraged each day that there are enough people to stop this nonsense. :)
Steve
Steve, I agree. Only I think that without small business, big business will be the real power in the land, as they'll control the purse strings of the government. Of course, big business and big government are kind of like the two blades on a pair of scissors, anyway...
Laura,
You're right. I agree. Big business is not what I'm talking about. Remember big business is "too big to fail." Therefore, we become the targets. :)
Steve
Steve, I really think our country is headed into some really tough times. I hope she can still stand tall after Washington is done with her.
Small businesses are the backbone of the economy and are job creators. Adding this punitive tax for healthcare in the current economic condition pretty much insures that there will be less new jobs and more job losses.
Suesan,
Interestingly, some positive economic news came out today, but Washington won't be content with leaving progress alone. :)
Steve
Ryan,
Not to mention all of the other jobs eliminated through other government actions. :)
Steve
Steve,
The only fact I hold on to in this environment is that -
It took a Carter to get a REAGAN.
One can hope.
Tim
Tim,
I have often had such a thought, and I agree. :)
