Some of you might know that I'm a NASCAR fan. You might also know that Jimmy Johnson, # 48, is the man.
Today at Dover he led the most laps and looked like he was capable of winning the race until a late race caution changed all that. He got shuffled all the way back to 9th place with 25 laps to go. That's a lot of distance to make up. Then another caution happened where he couldn't advance his position.
Then his determination and confidence in the quality car that his team had assembled and fine-tuned - as well as his own driving ability - took over. Sixth place, 5th, 4th. 3rd. Then 2nd, and with 5 laps to go he challenged for the lead but couldn't get it done. Finally with 3 laps to go, he made the pass for the lead and drove away with the victory.
The point is this. He could have panicked being down so far with the race almost over. He could have played it safe. He could have decided that a top 10 or top 5 finish was OK. But nothing less than the win would do - and he knew he was capable of it.
Patience, persistence, determination, perseverance, and confidence carried the day.

Hi Steve, you are so right. We not all of that and right now more than ever. So many realtors give up because it is not as easy as it seems. With all the rejection we face on a daily basis, confidence is the key. Good post.
I think that there was a little bit of skill mixed in with his self-confidence!
Great post Steve!
I need to apply those same attitudes each day.
Sandra,
Condifence in our abilities is a big attribute of our potential success. :)
Steve
Mark,
That skill gave him the confidence - along with his team. :)
Steve
An,
Thank you. Patience is important - not being passive but not being hasty either. :)
Steve
I haven't had a chance to write up my weekly review yet, Steve. My guy is Jeff Gordon. So, I was disheartened when he got caught up in a caution on pit row. My race was pretty much over then. However, that last rally by Jimmie Johnson shows exactly what he and Chad Knaus are made of. They're an amazing team.
Heather,
They really are. Too bad for Jeff. Jimmy caught caught that same way earlier in the year. :)
Steve
No doubt about it - skill, patience, persistence, etc. make all the difference. However, I would add - taking calculated risks and putting together a great team (including his pit crew).
Ryan,
They all work together. The confidence from the crew and the equipment emboldens him to emply his skill in a way that we might think risky. :)
Steve
The BIGGEST increase in self-confidence is David Reutimann #00 MWR Toyota * after he won in Charlotte, his WHOLE TEAM lit up like a rocket!!!
I watch Chad on TWINs on Monday night and he is cool, calm and composed * he allows Jimmy to do his job by Chad doing his job....having HMS behind them both is also a PLUS!!!
Wallace,
Good picture - I haven't seen this one yet. Thanks for the comments. :)
