From one extreme to the other

Florida (especially South Florida) has its seasons just like any any area, but our two main seasons are the rainy season and the rest of the year.

We just came off a very dry season. There were some wildfires and brushfires - but not as many as you might expect for the conditions we had. Maybe people were being more careful, and there certainly was no lightening to start anything.

Our drought index which ranges to a high of 800 was close to being reached in many places. The index measures the amount of moisture in the soil, and for every inch that you can dig without any moisture present is "100." I don't know why it only goes to 800 - seems it could go much higher than that.

Anyway, we had that condition until midweek. Now we have had rain - lots of it. Daytona, Orlando, and other areas in the middle and northern parts of the state had over 2 feet of rain by last night, and we have had over a foot since yesterday morning.

This definitely cured the drought and all of the plants that had withered. Now, if the plants don't rot from the standing water.

What a way to kick off the wet season!

Steve:  Sounds like a great analogy for real estate too.  It's all or nothing.  At least you don't have the wildfire worries anymore.

Chris Ann,

Hadn't thought about it in those terms. You're right about the wildfires. Have a great weekend. :)

Good for your area, Steve. We all need rain once in a while! - Luckily we haven't experienced drought in some time.

Lourdes,

It is nice to finally get rain. Going without rain is nice as far as not getting wet, but things don't grow like they're supposed to. :)

Hi Steve-We had a drought last year but I think we are making up for it.  It is nice when there is a balance but since it is nature I guess we can only take what we are given. Have a great weekend. <SMILE>

Sharon,

This happens a lot here - a long dry spell then torential rains. Always seems to work out. :)

Steve - We seem to be having extreme weather shifts here in Caifornia as well.  We've had the wildfires, then the rains; but currently we are enjoying beautiful delightful weather (in the 80s).  Last week we had record breaking temps in the 100s here in Sacramento.

Myrl,

I saw that 100 degree stuff you were having. Enjoy the nice weather now. :)

Steve

The drought is over in South Florida and I'm in the process of building an ark.

Good luck and success.
