People are counting on us

We have a job to do. People are counting on us. Oh, they not be doing so in a conscious way, but the people around us are expecting to hear positive news from us and to see us be optimistic.

It might be family or friends, it could be customers or potential customers, and it might even be other agents. While they probably are getting a very strong dose of negative news from the media or the other people they associate with on a regular basis, they really apprciate the lift they get from being around and hearing from us.

Again, it may not even be conscious on their part, but they will know the difference. It's up to us to maintain that diffeence and to be a beacon of optimtisim and inspiration for those around us.

I totally agree with you in the sense that we need to be optimistic and share good news with our clients about the real estate market BUT I think we need to be careful and not give false hope if things are in fact going down hill in a particular neighborhood or region (for instance).

We want to give them the good news that is not being broadcast on the nightly news but we also don't want to deceive them!

Striking a good balance between the 2 sides will make you a great agent!

Thanks for sharing, Nicole Weidauer

Nicole,

I'm not talking about Pollyana, but there is good news in most any situation - even if you have to look very hard for it. :)

With a sea of negativity surrounding,  the optimist will always see a glimmer of hope.

Claude,

Not only does the optimist see the hope, but people then see and appreciate this attitude as well. :)

Steve - When I'm asked about the market in our area, I talk about the positive things...and there are many!  :)

We do see many good things happening in the market, despite the media. There are still buyers out there and ready to buy. And we are very HOPEFUL!

ToulaRosebrock.comHi Steve:

Things have turned around.

And you are right, it's up to us to shoot about it!

Lou,

Thanks. It's hard to be in a position to help others if we need so much ourselves. :)

Paul,

I don't see this so much as a challenge but as an opportunity to be the lighthouse. :)

Right on, Steve.  When it comes to real estate in particular, we are considered leaders in our communities.  A part of leadership is to be able to look forward to the coming possibilities and communicate that optimism without sugar-coating it AND without making it sound worse than it might be.

Steve... My New Year's Resolution was to be more positive.  Though it has been hard, and I might have faultered once or twice, I still try to be optimist, and mention the good things going on in real estate.

Valerie,

Great goal, and good attitude. Optimism is more than just talking a good game, we have to let it guide our thoughts. :)

Janna,

We can make a noticeable difference in the lives of people around us - just with our attitudes. :)

Steve - Last time I checked, there has never been a market in modern history where there weren't any sales.  Bad market - foreclosures happen.  Any market - marriages, divorces, probate estates, relocations, etc.  It may require us to adopt new strategies and develop new niches - but there is business to be found in any market.

Ryan,

Absolutely. This is the definitive attitude for business. :)
