Close The Book On World War I

All connections to the conflict in World War I are now gone. The last combat veteran has died.

Claude Choules, 110, the last World War I combat veteran, died Thursday in his sleep in an nursing home in Australia.  Florence Green of Britian, also 110, is believed to have served with the Royal Air Force but did not see combat.

Claude was born in Britain in 1901 and joined the British Navy at age 15. Then in 1926 he moved to Australia and joined the Australian Navy and later served in World War II.

Thus, he was also the last veteran who served in both World Wars.
