Miamians Speak Out

The tea party movement was started because people were tired of being continually taxed just to pay for useless public programs and earmarks.

Yesterday, this sentiment was demonstrated in a very strong way when the voters in Miami-Dade, Florida (Metropolitan Miami) voted overwhelmingly to oust the mayor and a county commissioner in a recall election.

The vote was not just a simply majority either. It truly claasifies as a landslide or manadate as 88% of the voters approved of the recall.

It seems that mayor Carlos Alvarez had dramtically increased property taxes and then turned right around and gave out salary increases to employees. He had said the tax increase was necessary to maintain county services but that wasn't the case.

Alvarez was in the third year of his second four-year term. Unemploymnet in Miami is officially at 12% but unofficially much higher.

People have had it with tax increases. Now Alvarez and (former) County Commissioner Natacha Seijas know this first-hand.

There also are recall elections being attempted in Wisconsin, but part of these are being lead by big labor and are the exact opposite of the Miami case. In Wisconsin, 8 Republican Senators who voted to rein in the State budget are being targeted for removal by the big spending labor unions who don't really speak for the masses. Only 3 of the 14 Democratic Senators are being looked at for removal.

We have a powerful voice, but we shouldn't just be going around attempting to undo elections because we didn't like the way they turned out. There is always another election coming up in 2, 4, or 6 years depending on the office. For really inexplicable behavior like Alvarez' the recall works.

Sage Advice From Our Shortest Term President

William Henry Harrison, the 9th President of the United States, only served one month in office, from March 4-April 4, 1841 (Presidents took office in March at that time). He caught pneumonia on his Inauguration Day, speaking without a topcoat, and died a month later.

Still, what he said resonates so well today. It is a recipe for government health and a blueprint for real-life separation of powers that the Constitution lays out for us.

He was talking about his time, but we see so instances down through the years when this wisdom applies.

He correctly saw the power residing with the people and the President as the national exectuive or administrator - not policy setter.

He said:

The people are the best guardians of their own rights and it is the duty of their executive to abstain from interfering in or thwarting the sacred exercise of the lawmaking functions of their government.

It's The People's House

In words that we knew we should hear but thought maybe we wouldn't, yesterday was momentous in the House. Speaker Boehner said that This is the people’s House. This is their Congress. It’s about them, not us.

Contrast that to the lockout that Nancy Pelosi ordered when the public called on Congress during the Health Care debate and were denied access to our own building.

Let's hope that Boehner is able to help the House remember this commitment. Not so hopeful with Harry Reid's Senate. They are so out of touch with America.

Just remember that it truly is our house, our government, our Constitution, and our rights. We the people own America.

We The People Are Being Overruled

The first three words of the Constitution are "We the People." The 9th and 10th Amendments of the Constitution give us specific powers beyond what the other Articles and Amendments do. Whatever is not expressly given to the central government, we retain - at least that was the plan.

Yet. more and more, we the people are being deemed irrelevant by the courts, the Congress, and the Administration.

The GM, Citi, Fannie, Freddie, Chrysler, and other bailouts were done contrary to public opinion. Healthcare was passed in the face of overwhelming opposition that continues to this day.

The voters in California have twice voted a constitutional amendment to prohibit gay marriage, yet Judge Vaughn Walker said yesterday that the people can't do this. First it was deemed unconstitutional according to the state constitution, and now it's the US Constitution that is being cited.

California and Texas are just 2 of the 32 states that Constitutionally prohibit gay marriage. Yet in Texas. Judge Tena Callahan has ruled that this provision isn't proper. Why did she rule this way? Because two men who were "married" in Massachusetts according to the laws of that state want to get "divorced" in Texas. What is wrong with that picture?

If this is our country, why does it suddenly seem that we have no power? The will of the people is becoming secondary to the agenda of a few.
