I met a most interesting person this morning while having breakfast. He was seated at the booth across the aisle. Don’t even know how the conversation started, but when you you’re sales, conversations seem to start quite easily.
He was wearing a WWII veteran’s cap and I asked him about it. He was a B-29 pilot (the only surviving member of his crew) and was shot down over Japan. He was a POW for 6 months toward the end of the War, and we talked a little about that. The pilot of the Enola Gay was a friend of his.
He has written a book about his life and has been trying unsuccessfully to find a publisher. He is now 85, and the story he was recounting happened when he was 21.
He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (the Air Force’s highest award) a few years ago.
I don’t know what’s in his 258-page book, but if anyone knows of someone interested in taking a look at it with the thoughts of publishing it, let me know.
Lest we forget. There aren’t too many of our World War II heroes remaining.
