This is a great week for our country but could be even better. Congress is on vacation until after Labor Day. Nothing will get passed or even discussed in committee. The Supreme Court is on vacation until October. The President is on vacation.
This would seem to be a perfect time in DC when we would be free of even thinking or hearing about the government for a couple of weeks. If that were only true.
The President can invoke an Executive Order and cause people in his Administration to behave as if laws had been passed - even though such laws were never passed or intended to be passed by Congress. Also, the countless agencies in DC can come up with more regulations to promulgate on their own - as if they were autonomous parts of the government.
If DC really were on vacation, we could turn off the lights, determine what office space in various buildings is no longer needed and mothball it, run up the AC, and save some serious money.
Too bad - we really deserve a vacation from our government.
