America Loses Another Servant

General Alexander Haig died today. While he ran for President and served several Administrations, put politics aside just to recognize and appreciate the military achievement and service to our country that he accomplished.

Throughout American military history, there have been but 175 4-star generals in the US Army - beginning with George Washington. Haig was number 94, attaining that rank in January, 1973. They don't hand these out too freely.

Many distinguished military strategiests - names that you would recognize - are on that list. However, many are not. None attained it during the Civil War although Grant and Sherman did afterwards.

William Westmoreland, Creighton Abrams, John Pershing, Dwight Eishenhower, George Patton, Omar Bradley, George Marshall, Douglas MacArthur are on the list.

Colin Powell, Wesley Clark, Norman Schwarztkopf, Tommy Franks, David Patraeus, and Stanley McChrystal are as well.

It is a very elite group.

Thank you for your service, past and present to all 175, and a special thank you to Alexander Haig today.
